I won tickets to the Sens home opener yesterday on TSN 1200 from Mendes and Simpson. It was a really obscure trivia question...Who was the first LA Kings goalie to beat Ottawa in LA?

The answer was Rick Knickle, and the only way I knew that was because Simpson mentioned that the same guy was now a scout for the Nashville Predators. I sat next to a Nashville Predators scout on a flight to Germany one time......he also happened to be a former Kings backup goalie....Rick Knickle. He backed up Kelly Hrudey in LA at the same time Wayne played for them.

Anyway, I now have 4 tickets to the home opener!

Nice. I'll be there as well as I don't really miss home openers except last year.

I haven't missed a home opener in many years. This year I didn't plan on going as my wife is expecting around Oct 20th...but then the tickets fell into my lap courtesy of Rick Knickle. Pretty sure they are up in the 300s somewhere. Pretty nice that it's a 4-pack.

300's are the best seats in the house. Learn so much more from watching there and understanding of the game. Down low you get an appreciation for just how quick it is and difficult though.

Sounds like Spezza wants to play through the groin which would be stupid. If that's the case make him sit out against LA and give it a full week between games and come back on Saturday night. Sens can grind out points without the guy on the road as was proven last year so just do that. Trusting Spezza with his own body is about the dumbest thing the Sens could do right now, guy shouldn't be allowed to walk down the street without Randy Lee beside him.

Yeah, this isnt' a 48-game season. Sit out Spezza until he has no discomfort. Coming back too soon, early in an 82-game season is just plain stupid.

Yup and fact of the matter is if Spezza has a hangnail his game will be effected.  He basically needs to be 100% otherwise he is ineffective.  Sit him out, get him to 100%, don't mess around.  If they lose all 4 on the road trip it would be brutal but it's better than missing a top 2 center for 10-20 games.

Just keep the 2nd line together, and slide Pageau in between Michalek and Ryan. And yeah, I'd rather try Pageau there before Da Costa.

Only thing I would stay away from is moving Turris up to that spot for the time being.

Ummm, depends. I think you have to try and slide Da Costa in there just for the simple fact he can distribute the puck fairly well and may have a skill set that works with Ryan. If it doesn't work than yah, you slide Pageau up there but the guy is so versatile that he can play anywhere in the lineup and be effective. Da Costa is hit or miss, that's it. You either use him in your top 6 or you don't use him at all.

Don't think they touch that 2nd line.

Been saying this for a while. Pageau up there makes sense. He can pass, he can shoot, he has excellent hockey sense. Do it!

Spezza says he's ok, it's MacLean that says they might shut it down to heal. I'd say the player wins out on this one everytime. So we're likely to see Spez.

Spezza says he wants to play but is using it as an excuse for his poor skating...?

I'm not comfortable with turris in that slot and Zib isn't ready or might never be either... we haven't smpled SDC in that spot but it reminds me of desharnais in MTL. could work but isn't optimal... damn, i'd hate to lose anymore assets to aquire a number 1c. they aren't cheap at all if available at all.
There is no reason why Turris from here on out can't be a Bergereon type center who scores 50-60 points a year and is a stud everywhere else.  Those players are just as valuable as guys like Thornton or Sedin, maybe more so.  That said, I agree with your point of the Sens going out and looking for another center who can score if this turns out to be a long term thing.  You can win with depth down the middle as opposed to having one center who puts up monster numbers.  Hasn't worked for Ottawa, San Jose, Vancouver, or Philly yet.  The teams that have won, Boston, Chicago, LA, Det (Pitt is a different animal), all teams with depth and without a guy that will ever win the scoring race or be in the convo.

Spezza hasn't missed a game yet and missing 1 game in an 82 game season isn't a big deal so everyone should wait until the end of this road trip to really make any kind of judgement but it's concerning no matter what.
ya I guess i'm basing my conclusions on how well Turris fared last year in that top C role. we are way deeper then we were last year down the middle, well at least more experienced. I guess i buy into the idea that a good team needs a big 1C guy and Turris in my mind isn't there yet. he's put on weight this summer but can he keep it on? on TSN he's still listed bellow 200. maybe he's not far off from being that guy. school has kept me unable to watch the games so far. maybe if Turris can handle the #1 duties then one day Zib can the handle the 2C. I think if we're to make an impact we'd need a C now though... it's the price attached to that that scares me. it would start with Zib and then attach 2 other pieces... possibly ceci and another. do we really want to part with any of those? personally not...

Is he using it as an excuse? I think he just wants to be the Captain who doesn't let his team down - and he'll get his way. We'll see tonight (if he plays) whether that ends up being a reversed selfish decision or not.

Whoa whoa whoa....we ain't trading for anybody anytime soon. Spezza is questionable for the game tonight...not questionable for the rest of the season, not yet. If this turns into something that the Sens predict will be a season-long issue, then maybe they make a deal for an under-valued centre with a reasonable contract...like a Brassard or a Goc. No chance they make a big splash via trade for a legit #1 centre.

"It's hindered my skating the first couple of games," said Spezza. "It felt better (Tuesday). I skated better. It has definitely hindered me a little bit but I still thought I was able to get up and down the ice all right.

Play through it and shut up or sit out and heal it. Simple as that. He's been captain for a month and this kind of crap has already started from the injury to his excuses.

Last season Turris was playing every 2nd night and had very little help from the wings. This season isn't compacted like last year and he has 4-6 wingers they can throw out there at any time who will take some pressure off.
