No waivers for Z-Bad...that's what made the decision.

As predicted here by some, and not by others, Ottawa will not have a 23-man roster.

I kinda disagree with the move as I don't think Mika was outplayed by Pageau or DaCosta, as really outflanked. Da Costa has 2 points in 5 games playing with the likes of Ryan and Michalek. Zibanejad has 1 point in 4 games, the 1 point was a beauty goal he scored when he got moved up away from #14 and #22.

Not that either one had stats worth talking about.

Um...no. Pageau doesn't need waivers either.
Zibby didn't force management's hands to keep him on the roster.

Neither did Da Costa. I don't buy that we has better. Kassian either.

It's partially that. Melnyk doesn't want to carry 23. Da Costa is being showcased and until there is a trade he is in the lineup. Meanwhile Zibanejad will be playing big minutes in Bingo as a center. It sucks for him from a financial p.o.v. but it is what it is.

But the real question is: What would Magnum do?

Yes, I realize Pageau is also waiver-exempt. Pageau has been awesome since game #1 in the NHL, Mika not so much. One of 'em was going to be sent down. He'll get lots of playing time, and Eugene will save some money!

We asked Paul Maclean about Zibanejad. Basically said B. Murray will make roster announcements later. But we can confirm Zbad is AHL bound.

Don't know about you, but it sounds like MacLean wants to distance himself from this decision.

Yes, I realize Pageau is also waiver-exempt.  Pageau has been awesome since game #1 in the NHL, Mika not so much.  One of 'em was going to be sent down.  He'll get lots of playing time, and Eugene will save some money!

They weren't going to give away DaCosta via waiver so it was either Pageau or Zibanejad. Just like I said, as usual.

It's win-win-win! We keep Pageau, Z-Bad gets to light up the AHL, and The Euge saves some coin!!!!!

Zibanejad had an awful camp by all accounts and they were very unimpressed with the work he put in. Da Costa did the work, looked better, and got Zibanejad's spot. Might want to stop spinning at night clubs and put some work in off the ice.

Didn't see this one coming but probably a good call on their part.

What an odd decision.  Zbad is clearly better than Da Costa.  So strange...at least Zbad didn't help save the season last year when all the injuries piled up.  Oh wait...

Unless he came in out if shape. But it didn't appear that way.

MacLean is playing ball like any coach should. No big deal.

Da Costa didn't look better in my eyes. He would be in the AHL today if he was waiver exempt.

Saying Zibanejad had an awful camp is just wrong. He came into camp in great shape and does all the work. I don't mind him getting sent down but Da Costa is not a better player at the moment.

and I doubt they were very unimpressed with the work he put in. That's nothing but speculation on your end.
