Hmm, so the Tab S is down to $300 on amazon.com. My sister in law lives in New Hampshire, no sales tax, and we're visiting in August (dropping off the kids and then heading to London+Paris, finally!) So I could get it for the equivalent of $325+taxes in Canada. It's almost in my price range
On the other hand, I searched recently for best tablets and apparently the Dell Venue 8 7000 has taken over as the top Android tablet. Same exact screen as the Tab S (some reviewers say the colors are not oversaturated like the Tabs S appears), aluminum body, no bezel except at the bottom, better CPU/GPU benchmarks (recall that the Tab S has two quad-processors running at different speeds, and only one is active at any time allowing you to run the lower-speed one to save battery time if CPU power requirements are lower; this one has a quad-core CPU running at a faster clock speed). It has 2GB of RAM instead of 3 but all other high-end tablets have 2GB so not sure if/when having 3GB would be a benefit. It doesn't have a fingerprint unlocking option but it does have a gimmick of its own -- it's the first tablet using the Intel RealSense 3D camera. The back has 3 cameras -- the main 8MP one at the top, and two 720p ones below and to either side. This allows you to take a picture and then, later on, to change the focus between foreground and background; or adjust the colors differently for background/foreground (e.g. have a full-color picture of a person with the background in b&w). Yeah, gimmicky, of course. And reviews say the actual image quality is mediocre. Of course image quality with all tablets is mediocre, but I guess when the the camera is one of the selling points of the camera the image quality issue become more visible.
