900k for Corvo? Holy Dung. Fair enough!

Nothing says "Budget Edition" like inking Joe Scorevo for 900k.

Not denying that the sens have a budget, but i'm glad corvo is coming in on a cheap contract like that. He's clearly desperate as I imagine other teams didn't inquire about him enough. He'll be motivated.

It's slim pickings for dmen out there. Whatever happened to that Blum guy?

It's almost like we had a hole to fill on our roster and tried to fill it as cheaply as possible...while not signing a total waste of space.

I'll withhold judgement on Corvo...on MacLean's team there is great potential he can actually be useful.

I've always liked Corvo. This signing went from good to great once the financials came out.

I don't see how anyone can have an issue with signing a pretty solid #6, 7 D man for under a mil. They obviously want Wiercioch to take that #4 spot and not give it up, Corvo being in Ottawa makes sure he stays honest because I would bet Corvo is looking for another contract after this season as well. Hell, there is no chance he will be worse than Lundin.

I wonder if Turris is concerned:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEpf5uVCu20#at=47

“Let’s just say I’ll be looking for him right off the bat,” said Corvo. “I’m not [happy]. Two days I’ve been walking around with a headache. Just because I didn’t lay down on the ice and get carted off and miss a period . . . I don’t know . . . it doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a cheap shot.

“In my opinion he saw my numbers and took the opportunity to seek revenge for the game prior when we were at home. Hopefully he’s a man and he’ll step up tomorrow when I come after him. I’m not going to try and hurt him, but I want to fight him.”

Are you suggesting Wiercioch playing the right side? Or Cowen. If WP is #4 then one of them has to play their off side.

I'm suggesting Wiercioch will be seeing enough mins most games to consider him a top 4 D man.  With the signing of Corvo it means they want Wiercioch playing on the 1st unit with Karlsson when they have a chance out on the PP.  Even strength maybe the move Phillips over with Wiercioch, that would be my guess.

Karlsson/Methot
Gryba/Cowen
Phillips/Wiercioch
Corvo

Cowen will be traded for a right-sided player.

Don't think there is a chance he comes back without a 1 way deal.  Sens have soured on him without question.  My guess is he ends up in the KHL or Swiss league.

Magic!

Mike McMahon ‏@MikeMcMahonCHN

European teams, specifically Swiss league, are interested in former Merrimack forward Stephane Da Costa, who is a RFA with Ottawa.

The only thing that bugs me about Uh Oh's signing is that what we REALLY needed was a veteran with leadership back there. I guess we could get Boyle out of SJ, but if we did, then we'd be pretty close to Cup contender status IMO.

Oh well...Corvo will be our PP specialist and play ~8 minutes of ES a night I would imagine. Still a great signing for the $$.

Murray did say he was in the market for a 5,6,7-type D. I guess he meant it.

Except for no, we can't get Boyle out of SJ. And I'm pretty certain we couldn't pay him if we did.

Here's what the Sens GM had to say about the signing of Corvo...

Joe brings us a veteran defenceman that has a history of scoring points in the National Hockey League. He is now one of seven defenceman that we have in the organization and we need depth -- or we needed depth -- and we certainly have that provided now in Joe. He has been here, he has an understanding of what it takes to play in this market now and, again, the most important thing with Joe is he's a veteran guy that can play on the power play, he can shoot the puck well, address some of the needs that are needed in the league today where you need to get points from your back end and he's one of those people that can provide it.
