To me you have to draft a player that's got the possibility to be a high scorer even if there's a chance to bust. We need top line players even 3 years down the road as the system's full of roll players and we've got secondary scorers.

if you think Zibanejad for example is a role player then you aren't getting a top line forward at 17

Tells you how different teams' lists are compared to general consensus
And Gillis still hhas a job

Gillis is an ex-agent.  I'd say it's more on his assistant GM and scouting GM.  Gillis probably just goes along with whatever they say.  If anyone should be replaced it's them.

I think there's always a top line forward that comes out every year after the top 15.

No zib is top 6 scoring forward. You can find 30 goal scorers at 17 but you might be taking a risk that they don't work out as say if you're drafting top 5. Personally that's why I want Domi. Doubt he's around at 17 but I hope we trade up for him.

Looks like there are 2 guys they like at 17 and they think one of them is gonna be there.

I wonder if Domi is one of them, I doubt he falls that low.

yeah Domi is probably who they want. They are tight with Tie and he is the exact kind of winger they need. Good Ontario kid.

Domi would probably be the perfect pick for the Sens... here's hoping.

Domi is definitely the perfect fit and he's a leftie.
But no way he is there at 17.
I'd trade any of our prospects not playing in the NHL yet added to the 17th just to move up to get him. Well maybe not Noesen:l:

I think Domi and Horvat are both being overranked at the moment. I expect one to be there. Horvat not interested in, though.

Not sure. He definitely is a rare breed in our pipeline.

I think there's always a top line forward that comes out every year after the top 15.

I don't know about *every* year, but look at 2003:
#17 Zach Parisee
#19 Ryan Getzlaf
#23 Ryan Kesler
#24 Mike Richards
#28 Corey Perry

But other than that one year, nothing jumps out between 2000 and 2005 (second half of 1st round).

Going earlier, 1999 had Havlat at #26, in 1996 you had Briere at #24, in 1993 it was Allison at #17, Saku Koivu at #21 (not really a big scorer) and Bertuzzi at #23 (where would he be if the Moore incident never happened).

So, yeah, it happens, but not every year.
