It won't be worse than anything else we've put out there lately. We needed to shuffle things up from top to bottom. I think Greening is well-suited to play with The Alfie...it's just tough to know what to expect from Smith.

Smith has been largely fine this year. Good defensively and our best faceoff guy with Spezza out.

He just hasn't produced but I bet if this was an 82-game season he'd hit closer to what he did last year.

Nothing that a kid out of Bingo could have done just as well if not better. He wins faceoffs and occasionally hits when he feels like it - otherwise I'm very, very disappointed in his year this year. Give him the benefit of the doubt I guess, technically a sophomore year and the first year after a new contract, but man...not great at all.

Whenever he and Neil step on the ice lately, I just wait until their shifts end so someone can come on who resembles something offensively.

I think I'd rather have Pageau than Smith at this exact moment if I was to pick one of the two.

It seems Latendresse has 1 foot in MacLean's doghouse for some reason.

Probably because he's sow and won't be back next year

Yeah, he's too slow for Mac's system. Damn shame, he looked good for long spurts IMO.

It's still a possibility that the Leafs win the Division. True.

More likely, though, the Habs finally win one against the dejected Jets (their game starts an hour later than the Sens/Caps game, so they could be eliminated before they start the third).
Would love to see the Leafs lose out and have everyone else move up, landing them in 8th to face Pitt. Heh heh.

Yeah, sounds about right. Maybe less than 20, more like 17, but that's just 2 less shifts and 1 less PK shift.

Just like I predicted...

Steve Lloyd: Karlsson says if he plays he'll play a full game. No 7th D spotting. He's travelling to WSH. See how it goes tmrw.

Karlsson says it's entirely up to him now for when he returns.

(enters time machine, goes back 65 days, NHL standings revised to have Ottawa #1 in the East)

Dan Seguin: Karlsson also says when he comes back it will be as a full time player not a pp specialist. #cbcott

I can't think of a legitimate reason. Specially with the lack of scoring.

I wonder where we would have ended up without the injuries to Spez and Karlsson and Anderson and Michalek and Cowen.

We'll never know but I doubt we'd have topped Pittsburgh.

#1 in the NE perhaps.

I think if you're the Murrays, you have to assume that you need to start looking for a #1C now...I mean, it doesn't hurt, does it?

I'm guessing they will have a clearer picture of the situation depending on whether or not Spezza can return THIS year.

We've got Spezza and Turris under contract for the foreseeable future, so obviously that was the plan for our top 2 centres...given the somewhat uncertain status of BOTH of them, do you bring in a veteran centre (i.e. a Ribeiro-type) to help provide a boost in the short term while our own young guys continue to develop?

Hopefully Ribeiro is not this team's next "Spezza". Too small for a 1LC IMO. Plus that fake injury against Boston when he was with the Habs is still etched in my memory.

I do not want to re-hash the Ribeiro debate, but I do invite you to go to the Plan B thread and make your own suggestion. http://www.gmhockey.com/t5844p40-ottawa-senators-plan-b#329348
