They were basically pumping his tires on how well the team has been playing and all the draft picks they have on the team now. Murray also mentioned there should be some more picks coming up next year, he didn't name names though. He also reminded them about Cowen being injured as a lot of people forget about him.

He was asked about making a big trade to go "all in" if he feels he's close to a Cup run but he didn't give any indication that he's considering that. He did agree that scoring has been an issue but the D has stepped up and of course the goal tending.

Was asked if he regretted his comments on Cooke. Murray countered that he never said anything about Cooke - I think they were confusing Melnyk's comments with his.

Was asked about the difference between the Clouston era and he had to really bite his lip. It comes down to respect and making the right demands.

For the record: Murray does not read BooBoo's Sunday column. Heh.

Bottom line from Murray was they're going to continue to build from within, use the kids, give them the opportunity to step up, no knee jerk reactions to the injuries, stay the course and build to the future. Praised Luke and the staff in Bingo and in Ottawa for the tremendous job they've been doing. The cooperation between the two clubs is really paying off.

I'm sure there's more. Good interview. The only surprise news was that Anderson would be making the trip. That's good. Murray joked that he may not be able to get back in the net with the way Bishop has been playing. HA.

If anyone finds a link to this interview in a podcast format, or whatever, I'd appreciate it. I missed the first part, and then it cut out a couple times.

The important parts:

- Cowen and Karlsson likely done for the season
- Spezza back mid-April
- Anderson will make the trip with the team
- Was contemplating adding a big piece this year but with the injuries likely will not happen
- Scouting and Development staff done a great job (no kidding)
- Coaching staff is successful because they are good people and players give 100% because of that

Mid April for Spez. That's longer than I thought - although I was being optimistic.

That's a little silly to pull your iron out of the fire because of injuries, no? I mean, the team is playing well, if you can add a big piece that isn't a UFA, then he should feel free to do so.

Late March was the very optimistic estimate. April was far more realistic and I am sure they'll err on the side of caution. That gives him about 2 weeks before the playoffs start, assuming we're still in it by then.

Can't afford to trade away organizational prospect depth due to injuries.

That's a possibility as well, BM always plays it close to the chest.

Yah, I didn't buy that "not adding a big piece" part one little bit. Murray doesn't show his hand which is a great thing to have in a GM. Face it, a winning team puts Murray in the drivers seat, no reason to make moves that doesn't benefit the long term success of the franchise at this point.

Not buying that. It's not even March and he's skating. I give it last week of March, 1st week of April.

Thought the same - or hoped the same.

What's the point of adding a big piece at the deadline ? We're not making it past the 1st round without EK. Assuming we make the playoffs.

If there's a solid hockey trade to be made then yes, you always do it.

I would imagine he's definitely holding his cards close to his vest right now. I bet the exact opposite is true and that he's in on three or four guys. Laugh1
