Seriously guys, this is absolutely devastating news for the Sens this year. I have to say that I'm disappointed in everyone's quitter attitude though. It's probably going to go south for them at this point, but it's nice to see that you've all given up on the team that you claim to support. Dammit!

Not sure we're giving up, but expectations should be realistically at an all time low.

Bet a deal goes down by Monday. Not sure if it'll be a huge deal or not, but I could see Cogliano and Whitney (who I don't care for) coming to Ottawa - at relatively low costs.

Who's giving up on the team ? Things are awfully bleak right now (like they weren't before), it's awfully hard to stay optimistic at this point. Pretty much everything that could go wrong has, everything.

It's like we were too healthy last year so the hockey gods are doing payback.

Murray's not going to pay a lot for bandaids. Whitney is a healthy scratch for the OILERS.

Teams are going to try and milk us since they know we'll be desperate. No one will give us a hand for cheap.

People are saying that they don't even want the team to win this season. If they pull off .500 hockey for the rest of the season, this franchise will be utterly dominant next season. If they find ways to steal a few games and maintain a good attitude, they'll be much better for it.

Sure, it's tough to be optimistic right now, but that's when optimism is most important--when there seems to be little or no hope.

That's the thing, he won't pay a lot unless it's a huge deal. He's gonna do something - soon. Mark my words.

What can he possibly do ? Overpaying for a bandaid makes no sense. If it's a long term improvement (like Turris) then go for it.

Obviously you can't replace Karlsson, hell good luck finding a right handed PMD of any sort who is available.

Call Gryba up, and hope to God that Wiercioch suddenly becomes the type of player we hope he'll be.

And then try and get RoR without giving up too much.

I just finished listening to the post game show. There were at least 20 or more calls and there was not 1 talking about the game, all of them were talking about the injury.
The franchise.

On the way in to work today, the Fan590 was talking about it the whole time. Almost turned it off. I'm so down about it. But life moves on. Sens will continue to play. Games will come and go.

@ian_mendes: In last 4 years, the three best Sens players - Alfredsson/Spezza/Karlsson have all suffered significant injuries in games vs Pittsburgh.

That's beyond infuriating. Sigh.

This is big news because of who it happened to and who did it. I am in no way saying Cooke went in there to cut Karlsson up but he went in there to take his knee into the boards or to try and hurt him in some way.

Also the way you pin a guy to the boards is by putting your knee between the legs and Cooke was no where near it. I'm not saying he did it on purpose but no one can convince me he didn't intend to try and hurt Karlsson there.

Thank god he is on his last year of his deal and I really hope no one signs the guy because he's just a piece of trash. Really hope Neil or who ever else takes him out.

It's impossible to prove any sort of intent but it was a reckless play by a reckless player against a superstar. Infuriating. A nothing play that should not have have happened in the first place. That's what makes it so infuriating.

Pretty much. Doesn't even matter if Cooke is suspended or fined, w/e, the damage is done.

My wife - the pacifist - after seeing the play and finding out that his season was done, said "He should be shot".

Lavoie: No hearing for Penguins forward Matt Cooke after the incident that injured Erik Karlsson of the Ottawa Senators last night.

No surprise. As angry as we are, there's nothing there to warrant discipline.

The Matt Cooke stuff needs to stop, it's embarrassing. He has been a COMPLETELY different guy the last few years. Really dug his game and the person lately. This was just an accident.

I was going to mention that Karlsson's real coming out party was against Pittsburgh last season and they gooned him out of the game.

Having said that, I'm not convinced there was anything intentional in this instance.
