And I thought I had it bad with a mere 7 Mbps max speed.

I had 7 until recently when I called up TekSavvy and got myself switched to 15 at no extra charge (other than buying a new modem).

Does TekSavvy have unlimited downloads? It's the only reason I'm with Primus.

You can get a plan that gives you 300GB/month which includes unlimited use between 2am and 8am, or straight-up unlimited.

Let's be honest, what's the point of having a 200Mbps download speed? Laugh1

Heh. It is pretty obscene. But, the download speed was not the main concern for me. The upload speed is my main gripe with these providers.

Also got a boost to a 550GB cap and ended up paying $30 less per month than I was before on a slower and lower cap setup.

wprager wrote:Well, I found out some info online.  Bizarre setup, they are all encouraged to bring their own toaster, toaster-oven, coffee maker, teapot but they can't leave them in the kitchen (bring them back to their room).  The "to bring" list includes things like a dish rack???!  They don't even have that?  It's like you need a big box labeled "Kitchen-in-a-box" that you keep in your room until you need it.

Still wouldn't mind knowing how many people share the kitchen.

I would imagine you could just use a small coffee maker in your room..?

Yes, things with auto-shutoff only. But he really doesn't drink much coffee. Maybe we could get him a small Keurig and a box of the Costco brand K-cups (they are kinda meh but he won't mind).

It's all the rest, though. Dishes, cutlery, dish rack, washing rag, drying rag, toaster, mixing bowls, pot/pan, measuring cups, etc, etc, etc. Even if it's just the basics (i.e. one pot, one pan, one mixing bow, measuring cups, not spoons) it's just stupid to have to always bring stuff in and then back. Why not have the kitchen at least partially stocked? Surely there's tons of this stuff left over at the end of each year, as I cannot imagine that every student always brings all of their crap back. You buy cheap stuff specifically so it doesn't matter much if you leave it behind.

I have a feeling we'll find out on tomorrow that that's exactly how it is, regardless of what the letter and FAQ say.

Beauty dude.

I have 1 Mbps download "slowness." I called Bell to see if they offered anything faster and they said they "don't know." And that a tech would have to come and check. He did. He says he "thinks" we can get "up to 1.5 Mbps." Bell can't even tell us what they offer, apparently. Oh yeah, we were asked to ask our neighbours what speed they are getting to get a better idea.

Fixed it.

If it's TekSavvy over Bell's phone line (DSL) then they aren't going to get anything better than Bell can. I suspect he's quite far away from the CO and that's why he can't get higher speeds than that.

If you have cable, though, can you get TekSavvy (over cable) even if you are not a Rogers customer?

That's neither here nor there the biggest issue so far is having Bell tell me twice that they don't even know what service they have and to suggest I should ask my neighbours. The tech did say the distance of the switch was the problem but being closer wouldn't get me to the 7Mbps that bigshots like the Clutcher are enjoying.

Unlimited package from Cogeco only comes with 55 Mbps and up and they charge 55/mo for 6 months then it's 105 bucks a month. Insane.

Re-sellers are hard to come by here I only see VMedia who offer 20/Mbps for 45 and 55 for 60 or, if I want to be cheap 10 for 37. All come with unlimited usage.

It would be over Bell's phone line. There's no cable out here unfortunately.

Sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of my ridiculously fast download speeds...

I think I'm getting confused over who gets what and where. There's Clutch who is out in the boonies, with no cable, but still getting passable 7Mbps service; SSF is seemingly in a new neighborhood but somehow so far from a box that he can only get dial-up-like speeds, and has to consult his neighbors for 2nd level tech support; there's Tim who appears to have all the bases covered and knows everything (except tuition costs); and there's SpezD who has never met a post he hadn't liked to comment on (how else can he keep up being the top-poster).

But I think all of our problems cab be blamed on Shabbs, since he has, single-handedly, taken all of the internet from us. Well, at least the download part of the internet. The only thing he's sorry about is that he wasn't able to also take our upload.

Nah, I'm good with my 15Mbps upload now.
