Looks like it's not an actual PVR. It's just some kind of portal to on-demand stuff from all the networks. I read bits and pieces when I have the time.

Reluctantly suggest going with FIBE.

Thanks. I have "regular" Bell right now and it sucks. I live in one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Cornwall and their best internet offering for our area is 1 Mbps. You read that right ONE Mbps. I can get up to 120 Mbps with cable.

You should be able to get more than that using ADSL. Ho flippin' far away is the curbside box if you can only get 1 Mbps.

I'll have to look into it. Only going by what the previous owner said as far as what's available for Bell.

If you're in the boonies I could see the CO being too far away to get a good-enough signal (I'm getting 15 Mbps *plus* TV over a simple twisted pair, not even bonded (two lines), and that's not even the most you can get (depends on how close the curbside box is). But just 1 Mbps is very low -- I wonder if that's the satellite link (if it's satellite then you would need to use the phone line for uploads).

I would have to move into the Penthouse of the tallest skyscraper in Cornwall. All the way on the 9th Floor.

Anyone here familiar with on-campus housing at Ottawa U? Looking over the list of "Things to bring" they include cutlery, mugs/cups, dishes, can opener, pots, pans, measuring cups, mixing bowls, coffee maker, etc.

I understand the first four, but then the list makes it sound like the kitchen will be completely empty. They don't let you bring a microwave so I assume they have one. But pots/pans/mixing bowls -- everyone brings their own? And if everyone brings their own coffee maker, toaster-oven, is there room for everyone or do they have to keep them in their rooms and only bring them out when cooking?

He's dug in his heels about getting a meal plan. It was hard-enough to convince him to stay in residence at least in the first year (well, it wasn't so much convincing as us putting down the $700 downpayment).

Anyhow, I'll find out in a couple of days when we officially move him in, but if someone can fill me in sooner than that that works also. He'll be in Thompson house, if that makes a difference.

Well, I found out some info online. Bizarre setup, they are all encouraged to bring their own toaster, toaster-oven, coffee maker, teapot but they can't leave them in the kitchen (bring them back to their room). The "to bring" list includes things like a dish rack???! They don't even have that? It's like you need a big box labeled "Kitchen-in-a-box" that you keep in your room until you need it.

Still wouldn't mind knowing how many people share the kitchen.

I would imagine you could just use a small coffee maker in your room..?

I have 1 Mbps download "speed." I called Bell to see if they offered anything faster and they said they "don't know." And that a tech would have to come and check. He did. He says he "thinks" we can get "up to 1.5 Mbps." Bell can't even tell us what they offer, apparently. Oh yeah, we were asked to ask our neighbours what speed they are getting to get a better idea.

Wow. Epic Bell service. My sympathies.

And I thought I had it bad with a mere 7 Mbps max speed.

I had 7 until recently when I called up TekSavvy and got myself switched to 15 at no extra charge (other than buying a new modem).

Does TekSavvy have unlimited downloads? It's the only reason I'm with Primus.
