I think the question here isn't about contender-ship. Rumors were that he was willing to waive to go to Toronto. You don't see the dreger coming out and saying he can't see him in Toronto right? But why would he accept toronto and not ottawa? Don't know what to believe anymore.

Funny because Dreger is changing his tune this morning. While he says that Ottawa has a better core of young players than Philly, he now says that he can't see The Nasher wanting to play in Ottawa.
That's in line with what I've heard from my buddy's scouting connections. The word is Ottawa is not on his list of teams he would approve a trade to, but that could change. It's not his preference, but you never know.

That's what Dreger said earlier in the week too but now he says different.
Sounds like what I heard is in line with what Dreger is saying now.

I concur.

If Toronto is truly on his list, then that blows the "contender" theory out of the water.

Well he's from Toronto so that's probably a special case. Just about every player will waive for their hometown. I remember Savard was willing to come here when it was rumoured Boston wanted to move him.

Honestly though, can you remember a top player who was seriously rumored to be on the trading block that the Leafs weren't interested in ? I think when Heatley wanted out I don't recall any mention of the Leafs, probably because they're in our division.

If we're not on his list now, I doubt that's going to change. I think Nash and his agent will shrink that list if anything to force Howson to trade him sooner rather than later as there's talk he is seriously getting pissed with how long Howson is dragging this out.

Looking more and more like Nash will simply be swapped for Bobby Ryan.

More to come.

Let the dreaming begin!

Ottawa's top 6 next season:

Nash / Spezza / Iginla
Michalek / Turris / The Alfie

Now we just have to figure out... "What does it take to get Nash?"

Just got an update from my sources:

Nash / Spezza / Parenteau
Michalek / Turris / The Alfie

More to come.

Parise is going to play for the league minimum to win the Cup every year with Ottawa.

Even NHL 12 rejects that idea.

I think all this Nash talk has broken Twitter.

Twitter seems to be back:

AJ Jakubec ‏@AJonSports

The price for Nash is steep. Might take Lehner or Bishop, Zibanejad, Foligno, Wiercioch AND their 2012 1st rounder. #Sens

45m AJ Jakubec ‏@AJonSports
The buzz in Pittsburgh so far. The Ottawa Senators are serious players in the Rick Nash sweepstakes. Might be between OTT, PHI and NYR.

Not that AJ is some sort of insider or anything, but I guess he's in Pittsburgh right now.

I think AJ Jakubec is from XM radio if memory serves (I own a Kia now and they are Sirius Sad )

Also, if that is the price for Nash, then Murray ought to tell Howson: "Take a hike, fuckface!"

No way he's worth that. If he goes for that much... MAYBE if you take Lehner out and put in Bishop and the swap the 15th for 31st... that I can see as perhaps CLOSE to fair value... Wiercoich at this point is a throw in.

No doubt. As nice as it would be to add a player like Nash, walking away from a stupid deal is so easy, given how good this team is regardless.

By the way, this is why I think now is a great time for a deal. Talk about no pressure and dealing from a position of strength!

I ask for a legitimate source linking Nash to Ottawa, and God gives me AJ Jakubec. Who says God doesn't have a sense of humour?

Alright, I'll play along. If the deal is Bishop, Zibanejad, Foligno, Wiercioch AND their 2012 1st rounder, then…well…I dunno. I don't think losing Bishop/Foligno/Wiercioch hurts the team too much, and Zbad is still an unproven commodity. If you look at how this affects our current roster, it's essentially Foligno for Nash.

I would not put Lehner in that package instead of Bishop.
