If Washington goes 5-0, Sens can miss at 3-2. Magic number is 7.

Washington won't make it. Last night's loss sealed their fate.

Magic number for Buffalo is still 8, for Washington is 7.

We're not out of the woods yet.

Those #s could well change before we even hit the ice the next time. Any regulation loss by those teams = -2 to those figures. We could be at 5 for WAS (who plays BOS Thursday), and 6 for BUF (who plays PIT on Friday), before Saturday, with OTT still have 5 games / 10 points up for grabs.

Why is anyone surprised at this? Why do you think PIT lost to NYI the other night? Why do really good teams lose to really strong teams, year after year? Why do bottom feeder teams look like world-beaters in March?

This is not news or anything different than we see every year. In fact, it's business as usual. It's a matter of teams looking ahead, of underestimating a team or taking a team for granted, it's a team playing with no pressure vs. a team under heavy pressure.

Same old, same old.
True that, but it just pisses me off cuz it's the Leafs and the Habs.

I don't mind so much losing to the Habs or Leafs, as longs as it's not all the time. What I *do* mind is losing the the Habs' and Leafs' fans.

Well, the Rangers spotted the Jets a 2-goal lead before they turned it on and scored four in a row, including a shortie and two powerplay markers. 4-2 Rangers half-way through the third. Surely, that's got to be it!

4-2 final Rags over Jets.

Dallas wins, San Jose loses in regulation. Stars now 2rd in the West; and because LA won, the Sharks slide all the way to 8th.

Two more sleeps before Game Day. On tap tonight:

Washington @ Boston
If Washington loses our magic number shrinks to 5; if they win in regulation, we're 5 behind Boston with no games in hand. My brain says Washington losing is best for us; catching New Jersey is the ticket here. But my heart still wants to catch and pass the Bruins. If we don't catch the Devils, we're facing the Bruins in round 1 (if we make it, that is). Florida is one point and one game closer to Boston. Man, this is tough.

Tampa Bay @ New Jersey
Easy choice here, Tampa all the way. But they didn't help us with Boston now, did they? Stamkos is padding his stats but his team keeps losing. Still, go Bolts!

Over in the West:

San Jose @ Phoenix
The Sharks just got pushed from 3rd to 8th, while the Coyotes got squeezed out of the playoff picture altogether. Both teams have 5 games remaining with 31 ROWs each. If Phoenix wins in OT/SO, I think goal differential is the second tie breaker, so San Jose remains in 8th. Coyotes have to win in regulation; Sharks just have to *win*. Imagine sliding from 3rd to 9th in two nights. Sharks are a tired team, having played (and lost) last night. Big Ev guarantees a Sharks win Smile

Wings' loss to Columbus unusual in more ways than one. First, of course, Columbus is a bottom-feeder while Detroit is one of the top teams. Second, they got beat by a third-stringer making just his 2nd start. Allen York stopped 29 shots in a 4-2 win, after #1 Mason took a puck to the mask in practice.

Calgary is on life support... almost time to pull the plug. Man, I was hoping they would make it in... but it's almost insurmountable now.

Someone needs to explain to me why this was done in the last 2 years already.

Ideal outcome tonight for the Sens:
- Caps lose to Boston in regulation
- Lightning beat Devils in regulation

Flyers visit the Leafs... bring on the waffles! I have a feeling the Leafs win tonight. 10 losses in a row at home just can't continue...

Heh. Talk about one of the most frustrating teams to be a fan of year in and year out. They need to blow it up.

C'mon Boston and Tampa! I think we've earned some breaks at this point.

If Boston loses to Washington in regulation, they are still 2 points back and we hold a game in hand. But Boston would then be only 4 ahead of Florida, who would have a game in hand. Florida's schedule includes games against Wild, Blue Jackets, Jets and Hurricanes (plus Redwings and Capitals, who may be out of it by then if Sabres/Sens keep winning). Boston would have games remaining with Rangers, Penguins, Sens and Sabres (plus Islanders, who are relishing the spoiler role).

I dunno, maybe better if Panthers passed the Bruins. Go Caps?

Or put a flame thrower to it Smile

If Jay Feaster was the man he was five years ago, he'd take a flame thrower to this place!
