Yep me too. Ev, you should change your name to Mr. Negativity. We know what to expect with every iteration of the NHL games, and we enjoy them immensely.

I bet you enjoy stuff that we'd find stupid. Like being constantly negative! Dammit!

How is that being negative when it's REALITY. I have purchased every game since I can remember. All you get each year - except for some like 07 and 09 I believe - is a slight graphics update, new roster, and SOME gameplay tweaks. This year they added goalie fights (which they HAD before) and braking the glass. WOW what an improvement! Now the glass is gonna break every period just like broken sticks.

I'm done. Give me more changes in 13 and I might buy. Greedy EA. Same with Madden games. But the sheeple will still buy the games.

The games aren't STUPID. You're just supporting their laziness even more. No more from me. This is what is also happening with Call of Duty.

That's not all that's changed...there are a bunch of other changes that aren't as noticeable...at first. Such as the new computer AI, which provides a more realistic playing experience (wingers breaking up ice to allow for better outlet passes, better defensive posturing blocking easy goals from the slot, etc), changes to Be a Pro mode (simming between shifts is a great one), more expansion on the EAUHL mode, addition of the Winter Classic (which is likely just cosmetic, but still cool), etc.

The other thing you have to remember is that the NHL franchise was already pretty well tuned in NHL 10 and 11, meaning that EA really can't tinker too much as they will risk alienating the legion of fans.

I'm not supporting laziness, as I believe a lot of work went into NHL 12. I am supporting EA's trend of not reinventing the wheel, and adding features/fine tuning gameplay where it makes sense.

i hope they've improved:

1.Why can't I sign a guy for 12 years?

2.Trade glitches - like trading a 4,5,6,7 for a 1st overall

3.Tell me immediately who scored, what goal it is of the year and who assisted, don't make me wait through the replays to see

4.There is NO 2nd contract in NHL11! These kids come off their rookie contract and want 5 million, what? I have to keep trading them when they're off their ELC, there has to be a 2nd contract feature built it, it can't be that hard.

Can't think of others, but there are other things that need to be tweaked for sure. I hear the same commentating is on this one, that's a DAMN shame and shows some real laziness IMO.

Otherwise, nerds move, I'm coming in.

Oh another thing,

In the XBOX one when there's an injury, the lineups get completely Cussed up in 11. Guys are in the minors who were in the NHL before and vice-versa - or if you're really unlucky, a guy who's not eligible to play in the AHL completely disappears to the juniors for the rest of the season (just happened w/B.Schenn who was my 2nd leading scorer).

Sometimes it condescends to tell you that a player has come back from injury and that you can change your lines, but it rarely gives you a chance to do your lines yourself when someone gets hurt. Very annoying!!!!!!!!

I think you have an option to turn "Assistant Coach Edit Lines" to off. Once you've done that, you're always prompted to edit your own lines when a guy gets injured. I know that when I am simming through games and a guy gets injured, the sim stops and I need to replace my player MYSELF before I can go on.

On your other point about being shown the current # of goals/whatever for a player after scoring, this was in the demo. It does show you this before showing the replays.

Holy Dung, all this time I didn't know that....all these game...I must have played 1000 games and not realized that. And it's not just me, it's my wife too, she plays a ton and didn't realize it either (I don't think).

Yikes.

Hang your heads in shame. Sometimes when the computer auto-diddles with your lineup, you end up getting a guy called-up that you can't send down because you'll lose him through waivers! This causes major frustration.

In all the games you both played, you didn't think that there must be a way around that? Heeheehee…well, now you know.

2. I've read they've made the trading system harder. So fewer glitches. However, in some respects they've also made it easier, because apparently now if there is a trade that would normally be too good to refuse, the computer won't refuse it.

3. As Tim said, they've changed things like that in the demo. One would think the game would be the same way.

4. That's something they mentioned in their Be a Gm Producer blog that they addressed. That these 'kids' won't be demanding outrageous contracts right after their ELC is finished.

One thing that doesn't get much attention that I am thrilled about is the new simming technology. They have completely revamped it, and now the players who should be scoring, are scoring, and that the simulation technology is heavily based on the players profile and ratings. Scorers are scoring, playmakers are getting assists, etc. But what's more, is you are still able to control some of the outcome of the game when you are simming. I don't know if anyone played MVP 2005 (I don't even like baseball, but that game was phenomenal!) The simming is going to be a bit more like that, where you have more options, and really see what is going on. Here is an excerpt of their blog:

"With the new sim engine, we allow you to simulate the game at different speeds and let you pause the sim if want to check out stats at anytime. There is search functionality so that you can focus on particular player’s actions for that game. We even added a net chart to track where shots and goals are occurring on your goalie so you can potentially user player training to improve upon his weaknesses. This lets you guys play Be a GM like a real NHL GM (watching the game) without leaving you in the dark of what’s happening in a game like last year’s Sim Intervention did. If Your Team starts to get into trouble, you can now sim intervene at any point in time of a game (no more period chunks). This lets you be in control of the situation that is at hand whether you’re down by a goal or by 3."

And here is a link on what I was talking about before, dealing with the entire Sim Engine:
http://www.ea.com/nhl/blog/nhl-12-sim-engine-blog

Also, now you can intervene at any time, and control the speed of the simulation. So 5 minutes left in the 1st, your team is down 4-0, you can intervene.

Dash wrote:I found that when you wound up for a slap shot (which typically stops your skating in NHL 11) that you maintain some momentum while gliding and your body moves more fluidly and the shot comes off more realistically.

As for hitting, I like that not every hit is a bone crusher. Smaller, weaker guys like Seguin are more likely to bounce off of a stronger player, whereas Chara and Horton will throw a much bigger hit. Players react differently when hit, like falling/stumbling or getting flattened.

One thing I hope they fix is the goalie contact. I was able to pound the goalie with crosschecks after the whistle and not penalties were called at all. Also I noticed if you take control of your goalie after a whistle and make him skate to centre ice, it will initiate a fight automatically.

AWESOME! Funny Dung man, I like the more realistic approach to the game play for sure, i'm happy they're making it better and better.

I am hearing that the trades and contracts may still not have been improved :S but we will see on launch and if they update with a patch.

Yeah Spez, turn coaching editing lines thingy to no or minimal at least. Still lets you choose to have the AC replace a player and do a best lines, but if you purposely move a player to a top line or dress a high potential player in place of a higher rated one, it messes that up.

Also, make sure you meet the cap floor or are under cap when entering season, otherwise if you are under, they will raise salaries and guys making 500K are now making 1M. It sucks. And I didn't find this out till late, but dont just qualify players. First check by negotiating new contract to see ow much they want, it may be less than it costs to qualify them.

A cheap way to retain players... cheaply... lol.... is to offer them huge long term deals and offer them more than they are asking. So if you have to re-sign a guy now that you know will be really good, and they want $2M, offer them like $4M for 8 yrs, cause they will ask for $11M later.

Oh and this is a weird glitch... but I made Aaron Ekblad (albeit older than he really is cause he is too young to actually have his real birth year) and when I drafted him (made him an A,A,A) he some how turned completely bright red... like Hellboy. It was creepy.

Yeah, that I do about the cheaper contracts, but for some reason the AC thing was something I never messed around with.

Thanks to you and Tim for pointing that out - although I guess it's almost obsolete now lol.
