The Mark Recchi reference was about Mark calling out Pacioretty after MaxPax was spotted at a movie theatre days after having his neurons rearranged by big Z.

Aw Tim...what do you want me to say? I went to clubs all the time as a younger man and there was always Dung going down between the dudes that were there, fights over women, hitting on someone's girlfriend by accident. Basically a throng of hormonal teens with too much to drink. That's not an optimum scenario for a leader/face of a franchise, but I will say again: I don't care and shall not comment on this again.

All I will say is: What do you think young NHLers do?????

The are stored in a locker over night and only come out for games and practices. Players should not be allowed to go to clubs or anything of the sort. They are hockey players, that's it. I don't even think they should have kids as it is a distraction from the game.

Yep, that's what I meant. Hopefully no one burned any brain cells in this thread, because it ain't very smart.

I understand what you mean, that's why I brought it up in the first place. You wouldn't see Sidney Crosby or Steven Stamkos at a club if they were dnoe for the season. They would be with their team I think.

Well Recchi was right. Somebody who just suffered a concussion and a broken vertebrae shouldn't be at a moive theatre.

It's not like he was at the IMAX.

Or skating today as he was... so much for having a severe concussion.. I assume that was greatly overstated.

Although Recchi backed off on his accusations, saying he was just taking some of the heat off Chara, this is still widely considered that it was exaggerated.

I never got any sense that it was exaggerated. They thought he had a serious concussion but it became apparent it wasn't as bad as they thought.

He had a broken neck, I don't think there was exaggeration.

That's what I'm saying though, apparently they knew a while before they said anything that it was a lot less serious than they thought.

There's a broken neck, and there's a broken neck. Those vertebrae stick out quite a bit, and a small crack in one of the tips would still be technically a break, even if there was no damage -- and no risk of damage -- to the spinal cord.

Pacioretty suffered a fracture of C4, but not a dislocation. My guess is that when the head snapped back (whipash) the long-end at the back of c4 (bottom of the image, below) either pressed against c5 or c4 pressed against it, causing the fracture.

Here's another view:
Ottawa Senators @ Florida Panthers, March 31st, 2011, 7:30 - Page 7 Cervical_ADR_anatomy01

My guess is it was the back tip of c4 that got dinged. I'm not trying to minimize the injury, but it's very possible that the concussion would have been a much more serious issue, since there was no dislocation and if there was no threat to further damage.

I've never (knowingly) had a concussion, but I have heard many, many times how every concussion is different. Just because the guy went to the movies doesn't mean he didn't suffer a concussion. As for the degree, I don't think Mark Recchi is an expert. He was basically drawing a conclusion, possibly from personal experience, but since each concussion is different, the conclusion was not necessarily correct.

Did the Habs want to get Chara suspended? Absolutely! I wouldn't expect anything different from any other club. But while Jacques Martin may have tried to use his best "brave situation" voice when delivering the news, I don't think that he exaggerated the medical report prepared by *professionals*.

Agreed, can't trust a guy with a name like that. Ottawa Senators @ Florida Panthers, March 31st, 2011, 7:30 - Page 7 159628

What's odd is that Svatos had a little something going with Greening and Spezza prior to Greening's demotion to Bingo. It'll be interesting to see if he can find chemistry with someone else now.

Can the chemistry wait til September? We have some serious losses to get here.
