Greening - Spezza - Butler
Michalek - Landeskog/RNH (I hope to hell) - Alfredsson
Foligno - Z.Smith - Neil
Regin - Winchester - Shannon/Condra

Phillips - Lee
Karlsson - Gonchar
Kuba - Carkner/Cowen/Rundblad

Which is great, because it makes Rundblad and Cowen fight to the death with Carkner and even Lee for that final spot - although Lee's made it as a shutdown IMO. He's been f-ing brilliant.

The other huge battle in camp will be between Greening, Condra, Butler + the guys in Bingo who might be on the bubble like O'Brien and Wick (I stand by that these two need another year in Bingo, especially Wick).

Good call on Shannon. Given how cheap he is, and how much he does (including, lately, PKing, manning the point during the PP in emergency situations, and creating some offence), it would be silly not to sign him to another $600K deal and keep him as our 13th forward, at the very least. You're not going to get a better deal that Shannon right now.

Definitely, the guy deserves another 600K contract in a big way, there's nothing more he can do to show that he gives it his all every night and can help the team.

The only times I've noticed Svatos was on an insane magician style play on a Ranger player that didn't result in a goal but was crazy slick. It looked like he went straight towards the Ranger defender and then suddenly appeared behind him almost as if he walked right through him. The other time I noticed him was on the play that lead to the first Condra goal.

I'm totally turned around on Shannon. I used to think he couldn't be overly useful in a bottom six role but he's been able to adjust and fit perfectly in that position. I'd have no problem giving him another 1 year deal.

I would be really surprised and probably a little PO'd if they didn't resign Shannon for a year or two. He's been everything you want in your 13th forward and the fact is he's been in the lineup basically every night this and done his job well.

If there is a guy stepping in for an injury next year and after, that guy should be Shannon. Perfect depth player IMO, he's really earned his keep since getting those strong of concussions 2 seasons ago.

I often pointed out that Shannon is not offensively gifted enough to play in the top 6, and too small to play in the bottom 6, and so he's a kind of 'tweener.

In spite of that, however, he has proven himself useful in so many ways. He's not great playing the point on the PP, but he's at least as good as Kuba, and so he's needed whenever we have an injury to one of our offensive D; he's surprising effective as a PKer (he was out for long stretches of the 5-on-3s last night, too), largely because he's fast and a very smart player; and he's got an amazing work ethic, which is a good influence on the kids moving forward.

At this point, it's probably a no-brainer that you sign him to another $650K contract, if you can.

That took a long, long time for you to come around on him though. Perhaps the Sens organization is taking their time on it as well - knowing full well that Shannon won't be a blazing hot commodity.

Hard to imagine with all the movement we've had, there will still be some fights for spots. Especially on D.

He's got something going with Condra as well. Svatos with Shannon isn't working, but Svatos won't be around next year. Svatos and Condra look really nice together, maybe add in someone like Greening/Z.Smith/Winchester instead of Svatos and you have a neat little/big line.

As in you don't think there's be fights for spots, or that you think it's great that with all the movement we're still gonna have major battles?

He's defying logic in that regard (Bolded statement) and I have thought the same for some time as well. That is why I'm turned around on him. I didn't see a roster spot for him but he seems to have found a way to be effective as a bottom six despite his limitations. Good on him and I'd be happy with him as a bottom six or just a 13th forward.

One thing I don't get with our current line configurations is the constant punishment of Winchester. Why is that guy stuck with Lessard & Potulny? It better be because he's just getting over that last injury. Because, seriously, Winchester has been one of the only bright spots on this team all year long, and I don't understand why he isn't getting more of an opportunity to play down the stretch.

I think we're all looking at the team the same way now, because I kept thinking that to myself last night and the game before. Is it a punishment, or is it to get Winchester back in the flow of the game (which I think is the case)? I think as the game progresses, Lessard takes a seat and they start double shifting the best players with Winchester, but still...as you said, before he got injured, Winchester was doing what Condra/Greening/Smith are doing now, you can't just turn your back on that.

I think it's great, and a promising sign for our depth. I wish there were more spots up for grabs (ie: Kuba's).

Laugh1 Okay, the wording could have gone either way. I agree, the dogfight will be at forward, but the D battle should be amazing as well - especially if Kuba is still in the mix. And the way he's playing right now, perhaps he should be.
