Yeah...and by high fructose corn syrup, you mean pop.

Yep and if you look at what people in the good old days (50's or so) used to eat, they ate everything REAL and FRESH and there was nobody who was obese at all. And mostly all their food was high in fat. Everyone was thin and fit for the most part. Cream, butter, cheese, veg, fruit, red meat, chicken, non processed food, no frozen dinners, none of that Dung. Those were the days.

They also enjoyed pop and ice cream and the linked, but they were made using real ingredients and like TheAvatar said, no HFCS or fake sugars.

Frozen dinners used to be called "TV Dinners" and they were huge in the 50s/60s.

Linked? Like sausage links? I've heard that you can make gravy with that stuff.

You aren't googling correctly then. I found this in my first search: http://www.wholevegan.com/refined_sugar_history.html

Not a ton there, but there's a bit of info about the history.

They claim that half the population of the US consumes a half a pound of sugar per day. That can't be possible. This page lists the annual per-capita consumption for the US as 30 kg, which is 66 lbs, or 0.18 lbs/day. Even if all of this sugar is consumed by the 50% of the population that wholevegan.com talks about, that's 1/3 lb per day.

Still, no matter how you slice it, all of those numbers are way too high.

And it's not *just* refined sugar, because you've got white bread and rice and pasta, and most meats are breaded -- those are all simple carbohydrates.

The French have a word for it. "Sausage gravy."

No, that's my point. It's in EVERYTHING pre-made that you eat.

I made those wings yesterday for lunch. Combined with a quick dip: mayo, chipotle hot sauce, lime juice. Unreal.

I wonder if the Patriots had some fancy Dijon Ketchup after their Superbowl win?

Quite tasty.  A little dry...I would lower the cooking time to about 3 and a half hours if your wings are on the smaller side like mine were.  Still though, very good.  I used a lot of rub on them, but reduced the salt content a little bit.  Yum.

By the way, the younger of the two brothers who opened the "Fratelli" chain has passed away this Saturday, of brain cancer. He was 46. Sad. I remember when they first opened the Kanata location, it was a very cool place -- naturally the Sens players liked to hang out there.

The legs are good. I made them last night. Cooked for 3 hours at 250. I think I'll reduce the cooking time next time. Also, in the recipe it said that a lot of the rub would fall off. None fell off, so the spices are a bit strong, but still very, very good.

Thanks for sharing the recipe, Ev.
