Those are cool and all, but are really just novelties and not really worth it in the taste vs heart attack equation.

Is a huge misconception that these types of food are bad for you.

As for super bowl food. Find a good slow cooker chili recipe. Can't get any easier. Dump it all in the crock pot, turn it on and let the spices get deadly.

Sugar is the killer. Only recently are people starting to wake up and embrace fat for what it is.

Last time I checked high levels of salt weren't good for you either, but you keep on living in Ev-land.

Another myth that has been busted - you can use as much salt as you want in food - and in fact if you aren't eating sugar then it is good to get as much salt as you can. Again the worst thing in the world for you is sugar and bad carbs.

It's been proven time and time again that people who eat a high fat diet and don't worry about the salts or anything else actually improve in every health statistic - blood pressure, fat, weight, insulin level, you name it.

I heard a quote once (from a talk show caller, mind you) how the incidence of diabetes sky-rocketed after the sugar tax was lifted. Sugar tax, you ask? Apparently back in the day there was a hefty tax applied (in England) on sugar, so only the rich could afford it.

Not sure how true or accurate that is, because when I google "sugar tax" now all I see are current moves to tax sugar to cut obesity. Maybe if they tax it at the manufacturing level they will stop adding so much of it to products.

Also, explain why white bread costs less than whole wheat (same with flour). Flour that requires additional processing, which throws away some of the original grain, surely that should be cheaper, no?

You aren't googling correctly then. I found this in my first search: http://www.wholevegan.com/refined_sugar_history.html

Not a ton there, but there's a bit of info about the history.

Actually, a very interesting graph to look at is the incidence of obesity (in the US) and how it correlates to the introduction (and rise of popularity) of high fructose corn syrup. it's incredible.

Yep and if you look at what people in the good old days (50's or so) used to eat, they ate everything REAL and FRESH and there was nobody who was obese at all. And mostly all their food was high in fat. Everyone was thin and fit for the most part. Cream, butter, cheese, veg, fruit, red meat, chicken, non processed food, no frozen dinners, none of that Dung. Those were the days.

They also enjoyed pop and ice cream and the linked, but they were made using real ingredients and like TheAvatar said, no HFCS or fake sugars.

Frozen dinners used to be called "TV Dinners" and they were huge in the 50s/60s.
