If that's all it takes to settle this, make the offer, sign the deal, and let's move forward. $9-10 mil sounds right to me. I'm not going to lose any sleep over $333K extra if that's all it takes to settle this.

If that's the deal get it done. Phillips takes a pay cut and The Sens give him 3 more years. If those are the terms I would seriously question Murray.

If and when that gets signed (I don't see how it won't at that price) Campoli will probably be on the move if I had to guess.

That's a difference of 1.5M over the 3 yrs. Split it in half @ 750K and be done with it.

Sens will need another defensive D (other than Carkner) for next season. (does not include Cowen). So it's safer to sign one you have that wants to stay..... than risk going FA route on July 1 and not find a defensive D that wants to come to a rebuilding team in Ottawa.

Maybe you're right...I don't know why, but the thought of Phillips getting 500k pay cut for what amounts to 2 horrible seasons in the last 3 makes me a little irked. Especially if he doesn't get it then he's screwed the Senators with his balking (and I'm assuming here I don't know for sure that he has) at being moved. Montreal, Boston have both moved on and I just don't see who if anyone would deal for him now and have him accept to waive his NTC.

Thing is, Phillips had an awful start to the season, just brutal, but people seem to forget he again had to change partners and clerly he and Gonchar didn't work together. He then tried it out with Karlsson and whil Karlsson looked fantastic, Phillips was the guy left holding the bag in his own zone because Karlsson tends to lets say, not compete as hard as he should in his own zone.

Lately with Lee (who has transformed his game) he has looked somewhat like his old self. He's stil a good skater, still a guy that plays his role well, and still a guy that brings a lot more to the table than anyone that they could hope to replace him with. You would also have to think that Phillips play has a lot to do with the fact his father was deathly ill at one point and he is in his contract year.

I would suggest people may see the old Phillips once this contract is taken care of (if it gets done and I believe it will based on what has been reported today) and he can mvoe forward knowing he is secure in Ottawa for a few more years. He can still help The Sens in the present and future. He's a good player.

Dreger says gap in negotiations is closing slightly (between Phillips and Sens).

Well, if Chrip's speculative assessment is true he seems to feel that Murray has presented an offer and a trade on the table. Chris is now weighing the options of relocation or re-signing.
