All this shows me is that 1 - picking a coach seems to be a bit of a crap shoot
2 - There needs to be a right coach for the players mentality when selecting.
3 - The GM and coach have to be on the same page.
4 - The coach needs full autonomy, and a personality and strength to ensure that autonomy, to make coaching decisions without interference.

WB..don't know you, but read the history and look forward to reading your posts...

By RIGHT GM found are you talking the right GM for Melynk or the right GM for an NHL franchise...I'm afraid with all these rumors of Dave Cameron being the next coach that we may get into a who Melnyk likes most situation versus who is right.

The right GM as in the guy who will give or keep the credibility of The Sens, who will attract UFA's when the time is right, who will be the right people in place from scouts to the people who sell the beer. The guy that knows what he wants and knows how to put it in place.

Dave Cameron is a hell of a coach though, that could be anyones pick and he could be the next big thing coming to The NHL. Muller is another guy I would look at as well.

I don't know Dave Cameron (other than what I've seen on T.V.) I just want to avoid giving him the position because of his relationship with Gene...if he's qualified then I'm all for it.

Pretty much how I feel about it too. Murray should be hammered for the coaches he has hired in Ottawa but he is still the man that found Babcock, who is probably the best coach in The NHL at this point.

I feel you're better off with Muller than Cameron - or both I guess.

Maybe, maybe not. The Sens are going to be a very young team who will need a coach that is there to teach and create a system they can succeed in. A goaltender goes a long way as well, hopefully they can lock Anderson up long term soon... what a great move by Murray there, no idea what Col was thinking with that one, none.

What are people opinions of Randy Cunneyworth. He knows the city and the expectations here. I think he's shown he can work with young players because of his work with Buffalo's farm system, and those kids are starting to produce at the NHL level.

THoughts?

Again, tough to say. The Sens need a coach who has the ability to teach the game and put a strong system in place. I think there are a few options out there and Cunneyworth would be one for sure.

Yeah, I like him a lot as well. That would be another guy to put on the radar.

Will they go to another minor league coach? I'm not so sure.

I think Clouston's odds are improving. Most likely he is gone but I can see a 1 year contract and they bring in a former head coach to be his 'associate coach'.

What they need above all else is a teacher. I'm not sure who that guy is and I don't know where he will come from, but that's probably the most important thing going forward. A guy that knows how to communicate with the youth and get the most out of them.

Looks like Clouston might have this team in hand with some big personalities out of the picture.

I'm weary of a minor league coach because they haven't dealt with millionaire NHL players, not everyone on the team will be a young rookie next year.

Muller has been an associate coach for a number of years and is also a former player/team captain so he's played the game from both angles. Cunneyworth or Dineen would be interesting choices as well. I do not think there's any experienced coaches available. Hitchcock and Hartley are the only that immediately come to mind and I think they're over the hill.

Yesterday, Potvin mentioned it's Brad Lauer who runs the PP confused ? They were moving far more on the PP yesterday, I didn't even recognize them.

We praise him for things that have gone well and say well at the time they were good so just because things went bad it doesn't really matter. I personally love what Murray has done this season under the circumstances and I love how he's drafted and what he's done with the college route but I'm not giving him a complete mulligan just because the trades looked good at the time and now are turning out to be horrible.

I think it's time to move on with a new GM but keep Murray on as a consultant.

I think if his nephew Tim is promoted to GM, he will stay on as a consultant, but I have a hard time seeing that happening if Melnyk brings a new guy in.

He was winning too many games for us anyway.

Again with the coach, it's all about bringing in the teacher. If The Sens can resign Anderson than there are 3 very key pieces in place that rebuilding teams NEVER have.

Number 1 center, number 1 goaltender, true captain. Everything else is being built. Sens have a step up on a lot of teams. They are also building their back end first which will be key down the line.
