some interesting comments from Pierre Dorion, I really didn't think Silfverberg would be ready that quick

He definitely believes Rundblad will be in the line up contributing next season and had nothing but good things to say about Jakob Silfverberg.

Dorion says Silfverberg translates into a second/third line forward and he expects him to be an Ottawa Senator at some point next season.

Also seemed very excited about the idea of having two first round picks. Expects that whoever they take first will be in the line up contributing next year too.

Dorion really likes the depth of this year's draft compared to last year and feels that they can be in a great position moving forward with two 1st and 2nd round picks.

What the heck is going on? I thought Silfverberg said that he felt he wasn't ready for the NHL and would likely stay in the SEL? If they talked to him and he agreed, that's something very new.

looks like we will definitely be a younger and more exciting team next year, and if we still lose a greater amount of games, we could be looking at another good pick next year, Chicago did it, Pittsburgh did it, guess its now our turn.

As per Scott MacArthur

Daniel Alfredsson is "weeks" away with an injury that will never fully heal, according to coach Clouston.

Well, that doesn't sound great. What kind of injury will "never fully heal"? Could the end of the Alfredsson era actually be in sight? I don't like the sounds of this at all.

EDIT: TY is tweeting that it's the same chronic back injury that forced Mike Bossy to retire that's plaguing Alfie.

I doubt it personally. It probably still has something to do with the hernia he had.

Pierre Dorion for GM

Hmmm...that is VERY bad news - not just because he's our captain, but because he signed his new deal after he was 35, so we're stuck with his cap hit for 2 more years @ 5.6, then 4.875.

I really hope not, more for us than for him.

I hadn't really given it much thought, but that's intriguing. I wonder if he's A)interested and B)qualified. If there's two guys who I have man-crushes on, it's Dorion and Forsberg. So, I'd be on board - again, as long as he's qualified and really wants it - I guess that would be....Leader's decision?

Melnyk's decision probably. Leeder isn't a hockey guy.

Wounds caused by Dark Magic never heal. Remember George's (or is it Fred's?) ear being blasted off? Can't heal that stuff, even with magic.

I wonder if Alfie ever recovered fully from that Bell blindside, personally.

Can they not place him on LTIR? Even if they can't it's probably the best time for this to happen. We'll probably have that much extra cap space to account for it if it happens.

Dear lord, neither is Melnyk though, that scares the pants off of me.

That's quite true, but LTIR isn't a very glamorous way of going out if you're the longest serving captain in the league. Like Brind'amour, I'd be surprised if Alfie just shelved himself like that. Although, if he did, I assume he'd begin on-ice coaching to be as close to the team as possible - which would be very interesting and perhaps the beginning of a career in NHL coaching?

True. Ideally you want the pomp and ceremony of Alfie retiring rather than ignoring the elephant in the room while he's on LITR. As mentioned by others we probably aren't spending to the cap so we'll likely have extra space to accommodate for his retirement. I wonder if they plan on Alfie coming up through the coaching ranks or the GM office?
