It might be being offered, but SJ can't do it yet, they need to clear salary first. To which, I would say toss in Huskins as a dump and we'll shelter that contract until the summer.

Also, take this with a major grain of salt, but SJ has intense interest in Phillips according to some nerd who says he has 'inside information' ( Laugh1 ) - and their willing to part with McGinn and a 2nd.

Now, if this is true about Gonchar, that may be a legitimate offer for Gonch. Although, it'd be McGinn + a 1st IMO (yes, Gonchar is worth a ton).

Since when is Gonchar worth a ton? Kaberle has more value than him right now and he's a UFA after this year.

Since GMs started looking at the big picture instead of one poorly coached, poorly managed year in Ottawa. Gonchar would be huge for a team lacking punch on the backend, for a team like SJ for example, they'd have Boyle, Gonchar, Vlasic and Demers rounding out their top 4, much better than throwing Wallin or Huskins in there and hoping they can float.

The Sharks have been hurting all year, if they give Boyle a hand by bringing in a game-changer like Gonchar, it has a ripple effect through the whole team. Boyle can play a little less, be a little fresher, the pressure gets taken off him slightly, the forwards get pucks quicker with 2 all-world puck-movers getting them the pucks, a Boyle/Gonchar pairing on the PP would be lethal, the forwards would score more, the team's confidence goes up, everything.

Just because we're a black hole of talent in Ottawa, certainly doesn't mean that magically our players have no value. The Sharks apparently wanted Gonchar in the summer but were beaten out by us, so now, if you want him, you pay. Same applies for any team that wants him.

Totally agree SpezD. If we don't get good value then we're better off keeping him. Not just team wise but the optics would be terrible.

Clearing Gonchar's cap hit is worth it for me....but I just can't see him going to SJ when you look at the cap picture for them over the next couple years.

I really feel he's gonna be good for us next year with a new coach and hopefully some semblance of a system.

The new coach should be Ruff BTW.

Ya think Buffalo ever lets this guy go? He seems to be able to do no wrong in that Org.

There's no choice this time around though. Ruff is a "UFA" so to speak in that he doesn't have a contract and has expressed interest in testing the market (he turned down a contract in the summer).

Really eh? He doesn't want to be in Buffalo any longer? I guess he's willing to retire should no one come calling?

I think he turned it down due to uncertain ownership. If the owner is willing to open the chequebook for players, Ruff will stay.

I think there'll be a lineup of teams vying for his services.

Ruff's gotta be frustrated with that organization, but maybe the new ownership and a willingness to spend to the cap will change his mind?

Yeah, if they'll spend to the cap, then I could see him thinking about staying on - providing they pay him of course.
