This stems from a ridiculous CKAC report stating that there is a 'hot' rumour the Bruins would send Phil Kessel to Colorado for the number 3 pick overall - most likely Matt Duchene.

I thought this was probably one of the dumbest things I've heard in a while - and I said so. They response I got was that I was overvaluing a draft pick - because they have the potential to bust - and undervaluing Kessel - because he's already a bonafide NHLer.

So I thought I'd turn it over to the esteemed members of GMCentral.

Would you trade the number 3 pick overall (Matt Duchene) for Phil Kessel?

Nooooo shot. Kessel is still fairly raw and isnt a top tier player in the league. Duchene is a building block and could end up being the best forward from this draft. BIG pass if you're Colorado and a BIG yes if you're Boston.

there is no way colorado does that unless their intent is to fail kessel is not a top tier player and 3 gives almost a bonafide top tier player

I'd take any of Duchesne/Hedman/Taveres in a second:

Bigger upside, and more cap friendly.

Not a chance. It would have to be Lucic plus for me to stay on the phone.

I don't think I'd do it straight up, but a package revolving around Phil Kessel for the 3rd overall pick could be very interesting for Colorado...perhaps a Tukka Rask coming along in the package might be of mutual benefit to both sides.

In many years my answer would be yes, but this draft just seems to have too many "can't miss" prospects.
