This turn around time has to be the closest ever. That's what happens when the SCF ends at the mid-point of June and after the NBA finals....even though the NHL playoffs started a week and a half before the NBA playoffs.

I can see it changing at some point. June isn't a time for the Cup to be played - not that I care personally, but really...

Never heard of this Pronman person. Don't know anything about him.

But my take on what I did read is:

So by crunching 'numbers', equations, theories, or what players like him have done in the past.. they can fit Landeskog in at a 'low-level' first liner or better second liner. The kid has NOT played an NHL game... yet they can say based on facts & figures that's where he will be? I guess it helps to have a crystal ball...

You will never know how ANY of these prospects will do until they actually play -- can you? To say others when they are more developed and mature will be better than Landeskog -- is a guess.. pure & simple.

Also other than the top 2 or 3 in the draft.. . I thought throughout at least the first round.. the talent level did not drop off at all?

So who do you believe?

Rookies in the NHL learn a lot from their teammates and coaching staff. That is an intangible... no numbers, theories or comparisons can guarantee one way or the other how they will end up as an NHL player.

I'm by far an expert.. but that's my take on the article.

I hope the guy is right because intangibles count for a lot more in The NHL then they ever will in Jr. In Jr, those intangibles only go so far, skill usually wins out. In The NHL, not so much, unless you do the little things right and play the game with a certain edge, you won't be successful.

Landeskog falling to number 4 would be the time and place for Ottawa to trade up and nab him.

You're right, dead right. But there's also a need for skill in the NHL and Landeskog is pretty far down the list in terms of skill in this draft. I'd put Huberdeau, RNH, Strome and Couturier well above him for that - and I think that's what teams like the Panthers and Avs will covet. We'll see though I guess.

Just because a guy like Landeskog focus' on other things other than his own personal production doesn't mean there is a lack of skill. The skill is there and I think people are getting way too caught up in the numbers and youtube clips.

^ That sounds like speculation. What makes you think that his focus is on things other than production?

Because it's very rare you find as complete a player in Jr hockey as Landeskog. Last kid I remember being that solid all around was Duchene... very similar numbers too if I am not mistaken.

He says himself that he focuses on two-way play, being good in his own end but having skill to be great in the other end as well.

He will be a good goal scorer and a decent playmaker. Even if you are just judging by YouTube clips, you can see he has a good shot and like to play up-tempo hockey.

If teams were drafting on skill alone, Strome would go ahead of him, but that's why he won't and why he isn't ranked over him.

PS, it's obviously just for fun and means nothing, but I picked Mika Zibanejad and Rocco Grimaldi with our two first round picks in a board mock draft at Dobber Hockey. We get a solid two-way player who is a lot like Landeskog, and we get a home-run potential pick at #21. Grimaldi has arguably the most skill in the draft aside from RNH. Dorion said himself we can afford to gamble at 21 because we have lots of other picks.

Almost time for me to pick at #36!

Also, going through all the guides and the various mock, this draft is unpredictable and VERY deep in the first two rounds. Great news for us, as we have 5 picks in the first 61 (doubt we use em all though).

There will be some 2nd round gems for sure.

Or rather 6 in the first 66.

Don't forget in last year's draft.. players that were 'supposed' to go later in the draft ended up getting picked in the top 10.

It's a crap shoot. Different teams look at players differently depending on how they will fit into their style of play and of course their skill.

Probably a real possibility in the real draft as well. Grimaldi may have the highest offensive upside out of everyone in the draft.

Sens have a contest where if you pick the player they take with their pick, you can win some prize(s).

Oh, and any chance that Forsberg has been giving Ottawa anymore info re: Zibanejad?

I`m not sure he has Duchene`s puck handling or passing skills, but that said, I want him pretty bad, so I hope they all pass on him. I would if I was Florida, I`d go for skill, but Ottawa NEEDS this for their transition from crappy to hard working and gritty. He compliments Spezza very well, I could see him on his wing for the next 10+ years.

If we could trade down from 6 to 10 and get another 2nd - then grab Zib and Grimaldi, we're onto something real nice.

I have a feeling we won't move from our 6th place and we'll draft Strome. I have no problem with that either, like I've said before I have a feeling that even a year from now they'll say he should of gone top 4. lots of upsides. Lets not muck about and use all our 1sts and 2nds picks and come out of this with hot prospects up the wazoo! BM and his team have done a solid job so far in previous drafts that I'd be very intrigued to see what he can get us with our first 5-6 pick down the road. this could be the year where the forward ranks are refilled completely.
