If Landeskog makes it past 2 I can actually see him tumble all the way to #6. I wouldn't be as thrilled with it as some, but I know lots of people in Ottawa who would be happy.

I wonder if it would be easier to move up in small steps, rather than trying to swap a 6 for a top-three. For example, go to the Devils and remind them that they *need* a D-man, while we have no desire to take one. Swap #6 for #4 and throw in one of our 3rd rounders. Or maybe just offer one of our D prospects -- is Wiercioch too much to move from 6 to 4? It's a lot easier moving from 4 into the top 3.

Here's a tip: don't get your hopes up in a draft.

If the Devils were guaranteed to have the player they want at #4 or #6, why not?

Anyhow, the point I was making is that while it might be difficult to move from #6 up to #3, you could try to do it in two smaller steps. Ever hear of that guy who started with a red paper-clip and traded up to a house?

Do you really want to spend, say, a 3rd to jump to 4th and then probably a 2nd/3rd to jump into the top 3 somewhere? That really eats away at the depth we'd otherwise come away with at this draft.

3rd round picks aren't that big of a deal. Even a second would be bad, we have three of them.

The Sens have 12 picks in this draft. That's about 5 extra picks.

Murray will use them to get what he wants.

We may very well have the player we want at #4, but if the you really want someone who would be guaranteed to be gone at #3 and all it takes is a 3rd rounder then, yeah, you just do it and don't even think about it.

Although if you are that certain the player will be gone at #3 you *most likely* have to make a deal with #2, and that would cost more.

By the way, we have a ton of depth down on the farm. All we need to do is re-sign some and promote some. Chances are you're not getting better than a 3rd liner from the middle rounds, and we have plenty that can fill that role.
