Have you seen any? And I don't mean on TV. Live theater, live music -- makes a huge difference. Of course it helps if you actually like the music.

I don't like Broadway kinds of music in general. I think it's because I can't stand trumpets. Which is funny because I love the saxophone.

At least I have one. You are still on you Boy Card for a few more years. I enjoy excellence.

I just downloaded Les Miserables and fast forwarded through some of it. God, how depressing. I know one song from it -- and it is very good and all, but I'm definitely leaning to Chicago. Roxy Hart FTW?

Lol what does I enjoy excellence even mean?

It means I don't limit myself to one or two things -- I enjoy excellence in many areas, be it sport, music, dance, theater and so on. And unlike some here, and when you grow up and learn how to be a man you will realize that you don't need a "card" to remind you that you are one.

* But I still won't wear pink. Have to draw the line, somewhere.

Anyhow, there's really no advice in here. I've read the synopsis of Les Miserables and I listened to a bit more of the tunes. I think I'll stick with the showgirls and Bob Fosse choreography. Man was a genius. Watch All That Jazz, sometime.

We're going to only be there two nights. Two blocks from Times Square - isn't that quite a walk to Brooklyn Bridge? I'm not very strong on my NYC geography. My cousin's family used to live on Staten Island, so I've been a couple times, but that was way back when. Didn't spend more than a couple hours downtown.

EDIT: Just looked it up. Definitely not walking distance. I suppose we could drive there, but I don't know if we have in-out privileges (it's $55 power day valet parking so you'd figure that should be included, but this place also charges $12 per day for internet).

Anyway, is there parking? And what did of the bridge is out under?

No, there's no parking...it's a hole in the wall type place and gets pretty busy at prime meal times, so I'd go mid afternoon. If you're not going to be in that part of town, don't worry about it. It's just really good NY style pizza.

It's #4 on The Times' list of ten things to do in NYC. We might have our docket filled. We're going to my sister in laws' place Wednesday, then driving down to NYC Thursday morning (kids stay with their aunt and cousins). It's about a 2-1/2 hour drive, the show is at 8. So we'll have a few hours Wednesday afternoon, which will have to include lunch and super. I figured a hotdog from a street vendor would do for lunch. I'm afraid what dinner will cost. Then we have a full day on Friday. Figure we'll do the Met, Central Park, stroll the shopping street (5th Avenue?) Maybe do the Empire State Building.

It hasn't been without hiccups.

Plan was to leave Sunday and spend some time with my folks on Ile Perot, then head out the next morning to New Hapshire. Breaks up the drive (only 5-1/2 hours from Montreal) and kids get a quick visit with grandparents. Then on Thursday the Oil Pressure light and ringing bell came on in the van. I've had a slow leak for a while and the garage told me to just top it up (had to add a quart every 4-6 weeks in winter, then even less frequently recently); but this is just a week after a checkup and oil change. When I tried to get the cap off to top it up the cap wouldn't come off but the whole "neck" was unscrewing from the engine body. So I figure that may have been the reason. But when I got it to the garage they assured me that would not cause the Oil Pressure Low light to come on. They couldn't find anything wrong on a quick inspection, but neither did they say that it was safe to drive. So I checked into renting, but with the long weekend there was nothing until Tuesday, so here we are, still here. Plan is the same, just shifted two days. Ironically the hotel rates ended up quite a bit less for Thursday/Friday than they were for Tuesday/Wednesday. But I could have had tickets for Les Miz front row balcony, but now all those seats are booked. Still got front row balcony for Chicago (maybe about 10 seats off-center).

Just for fun, since I was already on the website (bookit.com) I checked what it would cost for a two-night stay in Manhattan on December 31. Including flight (from Ottawa) you can book a four-start hotel within walking distance of Times Square for about $1500 (plus fees/taxes/whatnot would drive that up a bit). I was really surprised.

Renting a car, if you got something big, couldn't have been cheap I imagine.

Full-sized SUV was $467 (plus taxes/fees/whatnot) for the week. It was cheaper than a minivan, for some reason. Probably the minivan (Dodge) was all equipped (electric doors). But the full-size SUV seats 7 so there must be a third bench (we're taking three of the kids with us and there's no way I'm driving 600+ kilometers with the three of them sharing a rear bench). Gord Miller (did I say Millard before?) tweeted yesterday a picture of a Caddy he got upgraded to by Avis. I'm renting from Avis as well. Fingers crossed. The fullsize SUV is "GMC Acadia or similar"; I wonder what the upgrade could be.

Weird thing -- I just looked at their pricing, and the daily rental for the minivan is quite a bit less than the fullsize SUV, yet for the weekly rental it was the other way around. I wonder if they made a mistake.

Here, take a look -- does this make *any* sense?

The full size is not just less than the minivan but it's less than the "standard" SUV.
