Reminds me of a similar issue. Has anyone else noticed that Regin seems to look for the pass first? I've seen it happen quite a few times where he enters the zone with the puck and doesn't even look to the net. Instead, he's looking beside and behind him for the pass.

I think he has a ton of skill, but until he learns to look for the shot first, he's sure not gonna solve our lack of a 40-goal scorer problem.

I definitely have noticed that, yes. Regin needs to take a shoot first mentality ASAP.

I think, if he does, he's got a shot at living up to your tagline SD.

Trevor Daley is a UFA. Maybe a trade with Dallas can be made if they do not think they can re-sign him?

Meh..that ship sailed. Volchie can be replaced by guys like Sutton (as an example).

yes, but are the Ducks in need of cap relief? nope

this is why Volchie is more likely, but will not happen since *we're* tapped out.

I'd prefer Sutton as well.

Again, this is not a one-player problem or solution. It's a team-wide thing. Stop looking for quick, one-off fixes. What this team needs is to get its D in order -- that is, its Dmen / pairings, its transition from the backend, and its D-zone coverage. It has to start with that. Add Kovalchuk to the mess we have now, and it won't do anything. You have to sort the basic team aspects out first.

I've said it as well - the system hasn't clicked yet - why it hasn't no one can possibly know considering we have the same roster and coach as last year.

I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about the fact that we don't have a player capable of hitting 40 goals (I'll reserve judgment on Spezza until he does it as he's been close, but hasn't actually hit that number) - and it's starting to cause problems. For the most part, a 40 goal man is consistent in that he's a threat at all times and he's usually making something happen.

Foligno and Fisher took turns smacking the puck from the point to behind the net, then back to the point, then behind the net versus Montreal. They didn't seem to want to drive the net and make opportunities for themselves - and frankly that's been going on WAY too long with Fisher especially. We need someone who takes the puck and tells everyone to get the Cuss out of the way while he takes it to the net with speed and skill and scores a damn goal. It sounds really simple, but I repeat: it'll take some fancy footwork for Murray to find that guy- and we need that guy SOON.
and who did you have in mind?

By that I just meant it's a heck of a lot easier to find a shutdown/rugged D-man than a sniping forward. There's always at least three on the market by January and the same three are usually dealt by deadline day.

There's no one to be had right now I don't think. Unfortunately Murray will have to keep digging until he uncovers something - or wait until next summer and buy Semin.

I'll take Robyn Regehr but they have to take Kovalev.

semin again eh? i'm not really into that idea. to me the idea stinks to high heaven of heatley 2.0. not a team player.
maybe i'm wrong, i hope i'm wrong.

Oh for sure it's wishful thinking. But as far as defensive d-men go, him and Sarich would be perfect as that tough shutdown type. Would take more than Kovalev though.

Regher is on the books for 3 years. and at 4+ mill. i'd rather not comit more then 2-2.5 mill to a defencive D-man and for max 2 years. we've got so many prospects getting ready to line-up for the big club. in my opinion we mucked up by letting sutton go.
that being said i can't see all of cowen, runblad, wiercoch and gryba making the team. there is bound to be a trade involving at one of the first 3 named. wonder what that will be.

Anyone thinking a trade would solve anything doesn't get the real problem IMO.

Big Ev wrote:Do you know why you need to be worried? Because we basically made the playoffs because of 1 streak of games last year, our 11 game win streak. This team doesn't look like it will do this anytime soon.

Plus, I think we've had 1 good game so far, the Washington game, and we didn't even win it. All the other games we have looked shaky, and that's being nice.

Not time to panic, but time to worry.

See, there's the problem right there. Are you telling me that team that played the 6 games before the Central park incident looked like they could win 11 in a row?

WTF is the Central Park Incident?

Anyone can win 11 in a row, it just doesn't happen rarely. Don't expect the same team to do it twice. Especially with the worse D we have this year.

A new, vibrant talent up front wouldn't solve some of the transition issues? Or the PP issues? Or the losses? This team still isn't on the same page, I get that. Some of them are older and starting to wear, I also get that. What I don't like is that when opportunities arise to drive the puck to the net, we generally don't. That's coaching too though, is that what you're saying?

....or maybe they'll start to score. That would be refreshing and somewhat unexpected right now to see them fully re-connect with the system and look like a real team again.

Look, we brought in Gonchar who was a PP hero for 15+ years.
So all of a sudden on a (not so) beautiful month of October 2010 he just decided to suck? Say what you want, but any PP with Alfie, Spezza, Gonchar and MIchalek should be top 10 in the league night in night out.
Who exactly do you want to put in there? Crosby? Ovechkin?

I think fans just get too emotional, pissed off and they want to see a big shake up because they think that would give a little positive in their mood.
I am not saying I hold the absolute truth but I believe in this team on paper and I give it a few more games before it gels, and when it happens, because I know it will, I hope I'm gonna still hear you guys wanting to trade some of the players you mention here.
