I'm thinking a 6 million ceiling MAX, but probably more like 5.75.

So in the end, while not a horrible deal because he's so damn good, I think it's a little high for a LONG term like that.

Not comparable in my opinion. While you're only looking at cap hits, the telling number is the overall value of the contract. Chara signed for 7 years, 45.5 million, Keith signed for 13 years, 72 million. He'll be making 14+ million while Chara is retired. That's a big difference in contracts.

Prongs makes 7.6 this year.

Pronger's extension is a ~$4.9M cap hit.

Interesting news about the contract... the new rules affect this one... cap hit is $6.9 until the last year... which is $4m.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seemed like you were saying that Philly gets more value since Prongs brings more but makes less. He makes more. The cap hit is irrelevant to that argument, but if it isn't the one you were making, you can just ignore my comment.

EDIT: Sorry, that wasn't clear. If you're arguing the cap value of the contract, ignore my comment. I was responding to your wording that Prongs "makes considerably less" without realizing the possibility that you wanted to argue his cap value.

No worries, I only talk in terms of cap hit, since that is what has the biggest impact on the team IMO. I like Chara, more than I like Pronger, but Pronger's a more decorated player. Chara's still younger and could still be a major player (and he's still the teams captain), but I think they may have overpaid.

They are likely going to have to do some shuffling if not next year, a year or two after. Thomas might find himself in Europe, similar to Huet. And the talk is still going around that Savard is an unwanted piece there. Makes you wonder then why they extended him, and for so long.

I'll never understand why either of them were presented with the contracts that they were. Both got a raised eyebrow from me when the news hit. Savard's is a great example of the growing trend for GMs to handcuff themselves to absurd contract lengths. I just don't get it.
