Are you booing because he should have been with us, or because the Bs will continue to be a good team or because I beat your post in the other thread by 25 minutes? Sarcasm

i'm suprised by the "how much he will cost years from now". grant you lidstrom is making 6 plus at 40 7 years from now are we sure chara will be worth 6+? then again 5 years from now 6 mill+ might be a good deal cap wise...

That's not really a good deal. Chris Pronger's got more to his name than Chara and is making considerably less. I know Sens fans wanted to see him back in a Sens uniform, but obvioudly that ship has sailed a long time ago. Same with Hossa and Havlat. Time to move on.

Millard's tweet:

in Czech rep zdeno chara coughed up the puck and then couldn't catch prucha. Must be weighed down by all that new cash

Except it was Vrbata that scored, unless he was talking about a different play (it's 1-0 Coyotes).

It's not a great deal. Keith and Pronger are two of the guys who should be comparables who have signed recently. Pronger's deal was a 35+, but in the grand scheme, I can't see that making a major difference here.

I'm thinking a 6 million ceiling MAX, but probably more like 5.75.

So in the end, while not a horrible deal because he's so damn good, I think it's a little high for a LONG term like that.

Not comparable in my opinion. While you're only looking at cap hits, the telling number is the overall value of the contract. Chara signed for 7 years, 45.5 million, Keith signed for 13 years, 72 million. He'll be making 14+ million while Chara is retired. That's a big difference in contracts.

Prongs makes 7.6 this year.

Pronger's extension is a ~$4.9M cap hit.
