Barnsley produced the performance of the night in the npower Championship as they thumped Yorkshire rivals Leeds United 5-2 at Oakwell.
There was little sign of what was to come when Garry O'Connor cancelled out Jonny Howson's third minute opener shortly before the break as the scores finished equal after the opening half. The home side needed just four minutes of the second period to take the lead through Jim O'Brien and from that point they didn't look back.
Just after the hour Diego Arismendi made it three and 15 minutes later two goals in 60 seconds applied the icing to Barnsley's cake. First Neill Collins put through his own net and then Adam Hammill made it five. Leeds pulled a late consolation back through Davide Somma with four minutes to go but by then damage had been well and truly done, the victory saw the Tykes climb above Leeds into seventh place.
James Vaughan was Crystal Palace's star performer as they beat Portsmouth 4-1. The Everton loanee hammered the first hat-trick of his senior career as Selhurst Park on Tuesday night.
Vaughan opened the scoring after 14 minutes but ten minutes later Pompey levelled through Dave Kitson, it stayed that way till the second half when Vaughan scored in the 55th and 59th minutes. The win was rounded off by a Neil Danns penalty with nine minutes to go as Palace halved their negative goal difference and moved up to 19th position.
Midlands rivals Leicester City and Nottingham Forest are both off the mark at the sixth attempt after they recorded their first wins of 2010/11 season.
The Foxes, who have made a disappointing start to the season having reached the Play-Offs last season, were able to provide boss Paulo Sousa with his first league win in charge at the Walkers Stadium - against the side who had knocked them out at the semi-final stage.
Everything was heading as the form book had suggested as Cardiff City, holders of a 100% record away from home going into the match, took the lead through Lee Naylor midway through the first half. A second half brace from Andy King though turned the game on its head and secured a win for the home side for the first time since the start of May.

Their victory over Preston North End at Deepdale came after Jon Parkin had given the hosts the advantage three minutes before half-time. Lewis McGugan equalised after 68 minutes and went on to grab the all important winner with nine minutes to go.
Scunthorpe United began life without Nigel Adkins in some style too, winning 4-0 away to Sheffield United. Chris Dagnall scored a goal in each half, with a strike from David Mirfin sandwiched in between to set up a win for caretaker boss Ian Baraclough. Martyn Woolford applied some gloss to the victory deep into injury time as the Iron moved into the top half of the table.
It wasn't just Scunthorpe or Nottingham Forest who were heading home on Tuesday night with three points to show for their efforts.
Watford came away from Ashton Gate with a 2-0 victory over hosts Bristol City courtesy of goals from Marvin Sordell early in the first half and Danny Graham two minutes into the second period.
