As a 3rd line? I've thought of that obviously, hard to imagine Kovalev or Regin on a 3rd line, but it's possible.

As long as you insist on having Fisher on the 2nd line, anything is possible. Except improving your 2nd line.

Alfredsson HAS to play with Fisher eh? Interesting.

With Cullen hopefully, yeah. Fisher had his most success in the playoffs when they put Alfie and Cullen with him and moved him to wing. I would like to see that this year - I could care less if it makes Fisher happy or not.

I say 3rd line because one of the lines will take a massive him in ice time. So if Regin's line plays as much as Fisher's line, how much icetime does Chris Kelly, Chris Neil and Sharkko Ruutu get? 7 minutes? 5 million dollars for 7 minutes a night. confused

No they won, even strength everything is pretty close to equal from line 1-3. PP time and PK time is where a lot of players get their icetime. It's not like Ottawa's top line gets double shifted every game if ever at all.

People just like to throw out line's like they do in NHL10, it doesnt work that way. The only line that gets a little less ice time even strength is line 4.

I wonder why GMs even bother going after Top 6 players then? What a waste of resources.

There's not enough minutes in a game though. If Spezza and those guys log 18, Fisher's line logs 17, Regin's line 15, that leaves 10 minutes of ice time for line 4. And that's being conservative in some of those guesses.

Yeaaaah, Neil get's the 10 mins while Kelly and Ruutu kill penalties... I honestly dont see what your point is here.

You're assuming that no one takes a penalty at any point in the game.

I'll give you an example. Winchester, Donovan/Shannon, Foligno/Smith etc. were the 4th line last years - and they didn't play many minutes at all. Why? Because we had Kelly's line as the 3rd line center, so the 4th liners weren't used.

This year, the potential is there for Kelly's line to actually be the 4th line. Getting limited ice time even strength and being leaned on to kill penalties. My point is: 5 million dollars for 7-10 minutes a night is a very hefty price tag and one that may have been 'okay' last year when they were all considered top 9 guys, but may be a complete waste of resources this time around.

Ummm, you think the coach cares how much people are paid on the 4th line? The players are there to win games, salary is irrelivant once the lineup is set.

Don't care about the coach, extra money saved on line 4 = extra money to spend to improve other areas of the team.

Yeah, again, it's not EA Sports.

I disagree. If you can use that money towards another area, then you should. No team can justifiably say that they prefer to have an expensive 4th line. If the coach sets it up like that, that just means the depth is awesome. And if you have lots of depth, you got lots of trade bait.

Nope, but it is actually a real team that depends on the right pieces in the right places. Salary is a non factor when the games are actually being playerd.

If Clouston puts Kovalev on the 4th line playing less then 10 mins a game and the team is better for it, then that's how it goes. What he makes isnt important.

What do you think the case is in Ottawa?

That said, I think Kelly and Ruutu are on the block - very quietly, but for the first time I can't see where they fit anymore.
