Scott Niedermayer is expected to announce his retirement at a news conference at the Honda Centre in Anaheim later today.

Niedermayer leaves the game as a four-time Stanley Cup winner, two-time Olympic gold medallist and Memorial Cup winner.

More to follow.

Will he stay retired this time? Or come back in March?

Apparently Selanne will do the same now.

FriedmanHNIC Niedermayer retiring means Selanne will follow, according to Finnish Flash's previous comments

I think before he was in limbo rather than announcing his retirement. Great HOF career for him, but as a sens fan, wish it happened much earlier.

Hmmmm, this leaves a gaping hole in their blueline. You think theyll go after a Gonchar or maybe even trade for Campbell/Kaberle?

And no, Anaheim wont give up Ryan for Kaberle Laugh1

Two great, ultra-classy players with great careers. Congrats to both of them. Scott Niedermayer retires 77131

Still think Alfie deserved the CS in '07. Scott Niedermayer retires Icon_razz

That was flat-out robbery. A retirement (so he thought) gift from the Commish to a well-known veteran on an American-based team.

I've also heard from the Twitter crew that it could be Mitchell, Michalek too.
