The Anaheim Ducks remain in a holding pattern waiting for Scott Niedermayer to determine his playing status for next season.
As of Friday morning, Niedermayer remained undecided and sources say he is having an extremely difficult time making a decision that he said he would make prior to the draft, weeks ago.
Ducks general manager Bob Murray met with Niedermayer's agent, Kevin Epp on Thursday night and spoke directly to his veteran defenceman, but wasn't given an answer.
That answer is expected at some point today.
Sources say Hockey Canada president Bob Nicholson also spoke with Niedermayer on Thursday and encouraged him to play next season and told him Canada considers him a key leader on the 2010 Canadian Olympic team.
If Niedermayer elects to play, there are no guarantees he will re-sign in Anaheim.
The Ducks should be considered the frontrunner, although San Jose, Vancouver and Calgary are also believed to have strong interest.
Meanwhile, a number of NHL teams continue to talk to Anaheim about possibly trading for defenceman Chris Pronger, who would be expendable if Niedermayer is returning.
But even if Niedermayer doesn't provide the Ducks with a firm answer today, it's still possible Pronger could be moved if Anaheim gets the right offer. There is reportedly no shortage of interest in the big defenceman.

This stinks if you are waiting on the Ducks trading Pronger or making him available.
