I called to cancel, as we were switching phones and going with Bell Pay-as-you-go. The regular Rogers morons wouldn't do anything for us, as we had to call the special Corporate Services number. So I called them and told them we were switching to Bell and wanted to keep the same number, while cancelling the Corporate plan. They said it was fine, and the account would close after we activated with Bell.

LOW AND BEHOLD, a $180 cancellation fee on my credit card the month after we activated with Bell. I just got off the phone with "Corporate Services"...the lovely lady told me that the only way to reverse the charge was if we undid the cancellation and resumed our account with them. I said something like "Well, why didn't you tell me about the cancellation fee when I called to cancel?", to which she replied it was a part of my Corporate Account terms of agreement, and I should've already known.

Yowza. F Rogers, and F the Laffs.

Call your credit card company and ask the to reverse the charge, since you never signed for it. Pretty sure they cannot just willy-nilly charge you $180 without getting a signature.

Except I did sign for it when I signed up for the account. Of course I never read the fine print. It's my own fault, I accept that. Still doesn't lessen my hatred of Rogers.

I'm not saying they cannot charge you for it, I'm saying they can't automatically take it from you. They can bill you, that's all. Challenge it. They signed you up for monthly charges but this is different.

Corporate Rogers accounts are handled by an entirely different group and have a whole different set of "rules". I have the same issue as I'm still running under a corp discount program that I got 15+ years ago. Makes for a lot of additional calls.

Just got dinged with $42 on my latest bill for going over the cap. Checked my usage, and they are charging me based on an 80 GB cap limit, but I should be on the 90 GB plan. They are charging me $7/month for the newer modem, which they insist was necessary in order to enable me to download 90 GB. Man I've had just about enough of their crap. I'm going to call to get them to reverse the $42 (and the $7 on the current month), then I'm going to ask them why they are charging me $7 for the modem when I was originally on the rent-free-for-life plan (hey, it wasn't me who wanted to change the modem). And I'll make sure to remind then that TekSavvy will let me download 300 GB for less on a monthly basis.

With Netflix you don't get any of the current stuff (except for Netflix Originals). You also don't get Sens.

Anyhow, "Gordon" was not very helpful. He said 6-10 months while the website said "this year". My contract with Rogers (so as not to pay back the bundling discounts) is over Jan 30. I will be seriously considering moving to Bell Fibe-TV.

Can I still get TekSavvy internet over my Rogers cable if I am a Bell customer?

You can get Teksavvy Cable which is the same service as Rogers, just with a higher cap.

Yeah, I was just wondering if there were any restrictions like back in the old days with a dry DSL loop (for a while you could not get DSL over your Bell phone line if you were not a Bell subscriber). I think it was because Bell wouldn't power that line if there wasn't a subscriber, or something to that effect. The CRTC made them make it available but I still think there was an extra charge.

But with a US IP address, you can get NHL Gamecentre Live, which will give him access to Ottawa games. I have a friend that does that and he swears by it!

EDIT: In that message i'm somewhat implying you can only get Gamecentre with a US IP, which is not accurate. The US IP allows you access to the Ottawa games. You can get NHL Gamecentre regardless of your IP. They'll just black out in-market games.

You would also have to pay for NHL Gamecenter Live...

Live sports is the tough one... the rest you can probably download from anywhere.

There are a couple of websites you can stream from and the important games (Playoff games on CBC) are streamed on CBC.ca so it's all good. I don't get the opportunity to watch too many regular season games anymore so this works well for me.

My old PVR died about 3 weeks ago (slow death over about a week). So I called it in, told them I tried everything, including re-formatting the drive, they said just bring it in. So I got the new 8642 PVR (since the upstairs one is the new HD box I'm all set up for Whole Home PVR.

Got my latest monthly bill and it's over $250 now. Looks like they are charging me $25/month for the PVR, even though I had the old one on a rent-free-for-life deal (the "life" being as long as I remained a customer, not the life of the PVR). There was also yet another $16 download fee as my kids insist on watching hours of Netflix, re-watching the same "Community" and "Arrested Development" episodes they've seen 2-3 times.

So yet another long telephone call is in order. My contract runs out in January (to avoid paying back the bundling charges -- although, really, if I refuse to pay, how will try to collect?) and Bell's Fibe TV should be available then.

What services are you getting for $250? Cable, internet, home phone, AND cell phones?
