If he gets traded, good. For a couple of reasons. Nobody wants a guy that wants out on their team and, secondly, all the fans and media that seemingly drove him out of town will get what they deserve: a weaker team in the immediate AND a market with a reputation for treating their players like Dung. That'll draw UFAs like nobody's business.

What players have they treated like crap? Alfi - God. Fisher and Phillips are loved. There are a lot of guys on that team that get treated very well.

How is it surprising at all the Spezza, Heatley, Emery, and McGrattan are all (or will be) gone. Spezza did a lot of damage to himself because of a lot of things, the main ones being his freinds. You dont think those guys are in his ear? How do you think I knew he asked for a trade right after the playoffs... Ottawa is a small, small, place.

Spezza's a follower and always has been.

The Alfie is on a completely different level. He's not even in the discussion. Absolutely, Fisher and Phillips are loved. The fanbase isn't mature enough to understand that it's ok to be talented and put up points. You have to play a sound two-way game and bring your hard-hat and lunchpail to the rink every night, win or lose.

This town is stuck in the days of convincing themselves that guys like Pitlick and Andy Dackell were the only ones pulling their weight.

But he did. Saying he wasnt happy with the fans in public was a pretty good indication that Spezza doesnt want to be in Ottawa. All of his buddies are gone, he has had two pretty bad seasons for a 7 million dollar player in a row, and the fans are booing him.

It's ok to use logic sometimes in terms of Spezza.

The biggest mistake(s) ever made were letting 2 Slovak's go. Chara and Hossa. It's obviously hindsight but those two were part of the core that was brought along that worked their asses off and were loved, yet Muckler let both go. Tough to blame the fans for those two, isnt it?

There has never been a star player chased out of Ottawa besides Yashin. Emery wasnt a star nor a very good goaltender, there is a reason why his career is over. Heatley leaving the team was a huge reason for Ottawa's success this year as well, he's a cancer and has no character.

Spezza, well, maybe he did get chased out of town, I wont deny that, but did he really do himself any favours hanging with the people he did (still does) or by his play on the ice? He talks a good game but never has he really backed it up. The pressure of being a 7 million dollar player got to him.

Either way, if Spezza wants out, I want him gone. But there's no doubt that he won't be the last player run out of town by the media and the fans.

I think Spezza has wanted out for a long time, personally. Emery, McGrattan, Shubert, Meszaros, and Heatley all gone. All the guys crutches were taken from him. A lot has happend in Ottawa with Spezza, people dont realize how much.

Anyways, if he wants out you have to move him and getting Brassard and that 4th overall doesnt seem so bad now.

Let's hope this is put to bed quickly, I don't want another summer full of this BS. Quite frankly if it's true (which I doubt), it casts quite the black shadow on our organization, who would want to come here when losing a star player seems to be an annual affair ....

If that's what you'd be happy with getting in return, then I give up.

Ill tell you this right now, Spezza and Heatley are not exactly two players that others around The NHL are lining up to play with. Having a core of douche bags off the ice is the main reason for the teams monumental collapse in 08. Spezza is maybe the best of an awful bunch but there are a lot of guys who dislike him (not hate).

I have always been of the opinion that The Sens need to build a core group of new stars up front having a mature group of vets, muscle to protect them, and a solid blueline with good goaltending. A lot of pieces are in place now, moving Spezza could very well be the best thing for a true contender to emerge in 3 or 4 years.

hold on a minute.... i'm going to wait a while before i asume what Ian "Overtime" Facepalm Mendes is true... i'm sure spezza was dissapointed but there's a ton more that could of happened. the worst thing that could happen now is that this gets blown right out of proportion and we end up having to trade him for sweet little...

You'd probably have to take some salary too. Anyway, let's put this Dung to be ASAP.

I was thinking about Murray not saying anything. Reporters love to dig and pry, but the best thing to do is keep your mouth shut - don't give them an answer. TSN and all those guys know that Sens and Spezza are a hot topic so of course they are going to try to start up some rumours, and this is only feeding it.

He isnt worth much more then that. He's a guy who has had 3 straight years in a drop in production, hasnt hit a PPG in the last 2, makes 7 million, and is signed for 5 more years at an inflated rate. Is that even value? No. Is it the best Murray can get? Probably.

Would it make me happy? If he actually wants out, 100% yes.

That's not going to cut, the very fans that run guys out of town will not stand for a contender in 3 or 4 years. Nor will The Gene.

Are you serious? Brassard and the 4th overall is more than what Heatley got lol. Adding Filatov is just ridiculous.
