Plus he's currently our best goalie, relatively cheap, showing signs of continually improving, has won at every level he's ever competed, seems to be well-liked by his team mates, shows very good mental *and* physical toughness, has that great perennial 5-o-clock shadow thing going -- can you imagine what his playoff facial hair will look like? Wow. Yeah, a keeper (pun definitely intended).

100% right there. The guy is a rookie and people act like he has to be this teams saviour. Probably be one of the dumbest moves in Sens history to move a rookie goaltender who has outplayed the last 2 starters and won the job on 2 different occasions.

HE'S A ROOKIE... Imagine people wanting to trade Karlsson because he has had some downs this season, well same logic.

He's not a rookie, he's a sophomore.

He's a rookie, he didnt get a full season in last year, didnt have a full camp, never was consistantyl played. He is a sophomore by name only, and by 6 games. He plays 6 less games last year, he is a rookie.

Elliott is a rookie goaltender, this is his first full season in The NHL. He also has a winning record, a save %age of 900, and a good GAA... Elliott better be close to untouchable because there is no one better coming back in a trade, that's for sure. Defently no one better in the UFA market.

Well, there's no point in calling him a rookie if his official rookie season was last year...I still agree with your argument though

Take Steve Mason, Carey Price, and Brian Elliott's first 80 or so games of their career's and their numbers are basically the same, yet people in Ottawa say Elliott is no good? They say he is about as average as you get? Awesome forsight.

Brian Elliott has yet to play on a playoff team as well, not to mention Carey Price got thrown on a first place team and had everything basically handed to him... Mason, well, he was outstanding last year. Brian Elliott? Nope, he'll never be anything more then a backup and even then it's pushing it. 79 games played in the league (40 of those wins and only 25 loses) and he's just a backup, he'll never be anything.

Think about that, 80 games played and 25 losses???

Even though I don't really care about the reputation +/-, the comment about tanking was supposed to be a joke lol GAME DAY: Ottawa Senators @ Dallas Stars – 2:00PM EST, Saturday, March 20, 2010 - Page 17 270956

If, for example, Alfie and Spezza both tear their ACL's tomorrow, then tanking would be the only option

Maybe he meant he's a rookie as a starter. Every time Neely says it, though, he adds "practically" or something similar.

Tanking is not an option if Michalek, Foligno, Fisher, Kovalev etc. want to play in the NHL.

Actually, he got a - for a post about his untouchables. No mention of tanking there (I remember seeing someone mentioning tanking but I don't remember who it was, and it did not sound serious). That wasn't you, was it?

I don't feel like going through this whole thread to find out if it's been mentioned yet but, even if it has, it's worth repeating.

Spezza has now shown he has the ability to step up and produce points, even when times are bad. That was a big knock on him. I'd say a hat-trick and 4 point night in a losing cause is a step in the right direction and at least shows he is capable of stepping up. Props to Spezza.

He should have got that first goal too. Fisher never touched it.

If Elliott had that kind of effort in front of him against Atlanta, Leclaire wouldn't have even gotten the start against Dallas.

If that was his goal Fisher would have owned up to it.

Spezza also had the coast-to-coast goal against Vancouver. Also in a losing cause. However, a win would be nice.

Spezza could actually end the season as out top goal scorer! If I told you that at the start of the season would you have believed me? If I told you he'd do it having only played 60 games would you think I was crazy?
