This is another example of where Kovalev never gets any respect. Ignore the first month of the season, because he's been great for the rest.
I also don't think it's necessary to acquire a top flight netminder anymore.

The biggest issue everyone has with Kovalev is that he *could be* great. He's got elite-level skill and he's getting paid a pretty decent salary for someone in the declining years of his career. Every once in a while he has a great game where he's hustling, fighting for the puck, hitting, but more often than not he coasts, and the points come only because of his high-end talent.
He may be second on the team in scoring, but maybe that's because Fisher and Michalek went cold for two months, and Spezza didn't start playing until January. Prospal is another aging vet, who's got roughly the same number of points (one ahead) while playing 4 fewer games, making $1.15M.
I'm not trying to say Kovalev is a bust, but he could be better; a lot better.
