Why do you say that? I've thought it has looked bad this year personally.

Dont know what people expect of the guy, he has had his issues but he still leads the team in ice a lot of nights and they are as hot as any team in The NHL... hes doing something right.

Right now, The Sens look like they will need Kuba in a big way. 3.7 was a good deal last year and is a good deal now, maybe better.

LEads The Sens in ice time and The Sens look great, again, must be doing somethng right.

Normally it's still more than you or I will make in our lifetime, but from the players perspective the owners have to pay it out (CBA) and they all want their piece. Plus guys like Volchie have limited shelf life. He's one injury way from serving pancakes at Perkins hoping Tiger comes in....

Poor guy...should be a number 2 or 3 where he'd truly excel, instead we make him play the number 1 role and then people Dung on him when he's not good enough. God, take about getting set up to fail...

Kuba is the perfect number 3 guy and he is doing a decent job as a number one, playing with rookies (yes Picard might as well be a rookie) none the less. Seriously, his most expierenced partner has been Campoli... not exactly the top of the line guys.

Karlsson has come a long ways because of the help from Kuba even when Karlsson looks to be the better player on some nights.

Lee, Campoli, Picard, esssh. Those are his partners. Karlsson and him look great together though.

I like Kuba and think he's great at his price. Look at all the other contracts out there and think of what we could be stuck with.

Makes 500k less than JM Liles who has been a healthy scratch on a less than stellar defense.

Kuba is probably one of the best bang for the buck players in the NHL. How many 3.7 million dollar players lead your defence in scoring, your team in ice time, and all while playing with a rookie and expecting to bring him along? Not a lot.

Im guilty of getting on Kuba's case but fact of the matter is people use him as a wipping boy which is way off base,

The Sens need whipping boys for some reason. And it never seems to be pluggers, even ones who are underperforming.

Ottawa loves their blue collar players, which is why Neil, Fisher and Volchy are fan faves while guys like Kuba get crapped on.

I dont really think there is anyone who should be ripped on The Sens right now, at all... maybe Leclaire but tough to wip the backup. Ive always defended that Neil contract though for those reasons, those guys do everythign in their power on the ice (Neil and Fisher) and more then should be expected off of it.

Kuba is a solid D man worth probably about 4.5 mil all things being equal.

With A Train bolting its a good thing Murray actually has a vet signed right now because next year could be uuuuugly with 2 rookies on that blueline with Karlsson and Lee to boot. It's not gonna happen and who knows if it would have, but that was a very real possibility.

Never said they should be ripped on, although I see how you could see it that way. I just mean that Sens fans have always seemed to rip on guys that play more of a skill game than anything else and who could be perceived as soft. Kuba just fits the bill and with Spezza's recent play someone needs to be the fall guy.

Spezza makes top dollar, big difference there. The team is centered around the guy. That's an unfair comparisson.

While I understand completely what you're saying, there was an extended period when Kuba re-signed where I thought he took his game to another level. He was making confident plays in his end, crisp passes in the offensive end. I remember clear as day saying that he had turned the corner and become the true #2 D-man that we needed so badly. This year has been a cause for a bit of concern IMO. He's been weak on the puck, his passing is still good, but he's not nearly as sharp as he was toward the end of last year.

Now, fingers crossed he'll put it all together again, but I'm not really seeing it right now. The best thing for him will be for Karlsson to come back and take some of the pressure off him, maybe that'll help.

You wouldn't even think that he's just a kid who's played exactly half a season of NHL hockey...incredible!

i'll bet murray offers 4.5 to volchie. murray has always paid a healthy sallary to senators for them to resign(neil, kelly, kuba) and i bet that trend continues. i don't think atrain gets traded. in murrays mind that would kill our contending chances. and i wouldn't be surprised to see a neil deal happen either. FA is very flattering for players and volchie might want to have a look at it only to work out a deal with murray after (a la neil)
