I think the posturing is just becoming more public. I'll be surprised if Volchenkov is traded. That being said, the uncertainty of that will likely cause Murray to stand pat, with the exception of an additional d-man for a mid-round pick or prospect.

Yeah, this is where I'm resigning myself to. Not much action.

Could very well be, but I dont think Murray lets A Train walk for nothing after seeing Redden and Chara walk... Those are the moves that killed us on the blueline for a long time.

Anyways, I would rather give that cash to Phillips next year, sign him to a life long contract, something like 8 years at 3.3 mil.

Do you all honestly believe that Murray and Melnyk will allow this city and team to be held hostage again this summer after the Heatley fiasco?

I'm willing to bet that one of three things happen.

1) Volchie resigns by deadline
2) Volchie is traded at end of the season
3) Volchie is traded in next 48 hours.

I'm betting if he's not resigned then he's traded. I know that his wife is not happy with the thought of him spending the next couple of months in another city while they are here.

Yeah, well A Train makes his own bed, playing chicken with Murray isnt exactly the smartest thing to do, especially without an NTC.

Laugh1 That actually sounds pretty close to what he'll get IMO.

You mean trade his rights at the end of the season? Will that garner anything?

Kuba signing looks pretty good right now though.

Why do you say that? I've thought it has looked bad this year personally.

4th or 5th round pick to a team that wants to sign him before he goes to market.

Haha....that makes me want to barf. If his wife like it here though, wouldn't he try to hammer out a deal. Like, maybe he's asking 4.5, but realistically, he'd settle for 4.2. What about 4.1 - can both sides not come to an agreement, maybe budge a little in either direction? Frustrating! Tantrum

In all honesty it's impossible for anyone who has never been a pro athelete to understand why sign for 4.5 when 4.1 is on the table. I could sit here and try to explain it for years and still not be able to justify it to many of you.

I was always the type of person who would rather take less to help the team get someone else to help as well rather than take as much as I can.

Kuba does lead the team in TOI by a significant margin.

Kuba - 23:13
Phillips - 22:20
A-Train - 20:47
Alfie - 19:41

I would say in my opinion that Kuba has been one of our worst d-men...right up there with Lee Picard and Campoli.

What most people don't realize is how little of that money hockey (professional athletes at large apply as well) players actually receive.

$4,500,000 - 45% income tax - 5% escrow payment - 8% agent commission fee - everyday expenditures (house/car/bills/etc.) = not much.

Dont know what people expect of the guy, he has had his issues but he still leads the team in ice a lot of nights and they are as hot as any team in The NHL... hes doing something right.

Right now, The Sens look like they will need Kuba in a big way. 3.7 was a good deal last year and is a good deal now, maybe better.

Normally it's still more than you or I will make in our lifetime, but from the players perspective the owners have to pay it out (CBA) and they all want their piece. Plus guys like Volchie have limited shelf life. He's one injury way from serving pancakes at Perkins hoping Tiger comes in....
