Long story short, Canada wont win with efforts like that or if they dont start checking their ego's at the door.(they say it but that's all their doing). If they dont, that U.S team will actually beat them and then it will be a long a$$ haul to get to the gold medal game.

Meeting Sweden or Russia in the quarters would be a disaster.

It shows that this is a Sens dominated board, one misstep and everybody wants to hit the panic button.

I'm in no way saying it was a great game by the Canadians, in fact I was yelling at the TV louder than anyone else in the room at their cutesy plays. That being said, they still pulled out the win against a tough Swiss squad (which isn't getting nearly enough credit) who were riding a hot goaltender.

I guess I'm saying that we should wait until a loss before the nation calls it in, and keep cheering on our boys. We still have time to turn it around so everybody just settle down and enjoy the Olympics.

Next up is a tough American team (very underrated in my mind) that will be a good test for us. I'm inclined to think we'll win, but if we don't I'll still be there cheering on the team hoping they can win.

You're getting a completly unbias opinion with me because honestly, I could care less and was honestly hoping that The Swiss could pull it out. Im getting sick of Canadian hockey for the simple fact we thinks it's our God given right to win and other nations just dont care or compete like we do.

I'll never turn on The Sens but I would absolutely and have cheered against Canada. It's not a real representation of Canada IMO in terms of The Olympics or sport in general.

8th place or the Gold Medal, I dont care either way. Im counting the days until The NHL is back and we can watch real hockey. One game knock out tournaments, meh., not the same.

Fact of the matter is Canada hasnt put together a real complete team in a long time, even in Salt Lake they were not the best team there, they just happend to win the gold.

Canada will just keep putting together a team of all stars and keep getting the same results then ask why?

Never said it was his fault because of how we played. Didn't even say he's played bad.

Just odd to see a guy on team Canada relagated to defensive faceoffs, and no actual full shifts.

Just doesn't look good.

That's all Babcock, not Burgeron. Like I said I think Babcock totally over coached that game and made things way more complacted then they had to be.

Roll 4 lines and keep going at em.

Couldn't agree more!

I'm not a huge fan of the Olympics, but just the fact that so many people are piling on their performance tonight is ridiculous. It's 1 game where they clearly outplayed their oponent (although still not up to their best ability) and ran into a very underrated team and a very hot goalie.

Oh well, I guess I'll have to agree to disagree in this case, but atleast you (and several others) backed up your arguments and didn't just spew crud. That makes for good conversation (as much as I might disagree with it)

Dont know if I agree with that. In that 2nd period, The Swiss were easily the better team. Swiss played their game, Canada still had a lot of chances from the outside and didnt get in the dirty area's where they were going to beat Hiller, Swiss will give up those shots all day with a goaltender like Hiller.

Canada is the better team and no one will dispute that but tonight, I dont think some people should be as encoraged by a "win" as they are. To say it's just one game, well in this tourny that one game will cost them.

Like I said, I dont care who wins what in terms of this tourny, but that's how I saw it. Canada disrespected their opponite and it almost cost them.

"Crosby -- "No, we knew what to expect. It wasn't a question of us taking them lightly or anything like that. We respected them and we knew they were going to play hard. Again it's one game and anything can happen. They get a bounce off our guy there to tie the game and we basically carried the play throughout after that and couldn't put it in. Hot goalie, you know. Nine times out of 10 you get those chances in the third and you end up winning the game, but they made us work a little harder for it.""

That's a damage control statement and a bold face lie. I have never heard a player say "nono, we respected them, honest".

You expected different?

Obviously he's not going to come and say "We underestimated them and played kinda lazy, but thankfully I pulled it out in the shootout."

That's 100% pure Crosby talk at it's finest. Olympic Game Day: Switzerland vs. Canada 7:30PM EST. Thurs. Feb 18, 2010 - Page 13 270956

Point being is him saying that shows exactly what happend. Cocky bunch of Canadian hockey players, that's what the team is. Better get that straightend out.

This is the kind of game that explains why I don't cheer for this team.
Athletes who compete for the Olympics, like the speed-skating womens representing Canada work their asses off during 4 entire years for a few minutes of olympic time that will define all their hard work. Canadian NHL players, well it's just another tournament. I don't know if you guys watched the "hockey nations" documentaries. You just know when you listen to Selanne or Ovechkin or Alfredsson that they want that gold medal more than anything else and they're gonna compete like their lives depended on it. There's something that will never change, the olympic gold medal is the biggest life achievement for an international hockey player. For Canadians? It's not.
Not sure why there are talks about the team selections, when you nearly lose to a swiss team considering Canada's roster this should be the last of the worries. To me, Heatley's celebration after his goal compared to the other team's sums it all.
Goaltending was not an issue IMO, Brodeur played as good as Hiller.

I am proud to cheer for Canada, but I'd rather see other countries win if they give more effort, because there's nothing that I like more than seeing someone win because he deserves it.

Other than that, nothing to add, I pretty much agree with everything N4L said.

I'd say one big hit from David "The wrecking ball" Backes will shake any ego's real fast.

That's exactly how I view it. They are the ones that get me off my feet and cheering. I can watch The Crosby Show any time for about 8 months of the year.

If Canada doesnt win this tournament, I wont be asking why, that's for sure. I wont be questioning Yzerman because this tournament doesnt mean as much to The Canadians as a Stanley Cup.

Until I see a kid play road hockey and then gets his dad to come out to put a medal around his neck and give him a boquet of dandy lions, I wont ever view this tournament as anything other then 3 or 4 nations truly caring and Canada throwing together a team of all stars with huge ego's.

One hard hit from an unknown Swiss player caused Pronger to take a dumb penalty, got an extra attacker on the ice and The Swiss scored right there. Against The U.S, that might be the game or anyone else for that matter.

They dont realize they are representing Canada, they think the represent the best the world has to offer. Big problem and big difference compared to the other nations.

When Ovechkin said he would skip out on The NHL to play for Russia in 2014 and no one will stop him, never would a Canadian even think that let alone say it.

The more medal's the better, regardless of how we get them.

No question Alexandre Bilodeau's medal means an infinite amount more than a Hockey Gold, but you have to still cheer for your country.

I think your nuts cheering against your own country, attitudes aside.

The Americans still cheer for Johnny Wier and he's got an Ego unrivaled by almost any other athelete in the world.

No problem. Just wanted to make sure Canadians with this view of our "national team" being pure of heart are clear that other nations value you this tournament way more then Canadians actually do.

Why would you cheer for something that I don't feel represents me? Sorry but there are values in life that are more important than nationality.
If you're an american citizen, do you also cheer for an invasion of Irak because American soldiers are going there?
