Olympic Game Day: Canada vs. Norway - 7:30PM EST. Tues. Feb 16, 2010 CAN VS Olympic Game Day: Canada vs. Norway - 7:30PM EST. Tues. Feb 16, 2010 NOR

Norway?... NO WAY!

With the NHL on their Olympic break I thought I'd try my hand at an Olympic game day thread. There will be enormous pressure on Canada to acheive gold after the debacle that was 2006 and as always there will be questions about who was picked and probably even more questions about who wasn't picked to represent Canada in Vancouver.

There's no bigger question mark on this team right now than the goal-tending. Both Brodeur and Luongo have been pulled in their games leading up to the start of the Olympics and haven't been consistantly good for most of the season so far. Can the Canadian team get it together and win another Olympic gold? We like to think that this is our game and we dominate it but that simply hasn't been the case when it comes to Olympic Hockey. One gold in the span of 50 + years isn't going to cut it.

Lets start these games with a bang and dominate Norway like we know we can and serve notice to all the other teams that we're not only here to compete but to take the gold for the second time in the past three Olympic games and re-claim dominance at these games!

Just so you all know - The interest this GDT draws will be what decides if I will do any more of these for the Olympics.

The good news for Canada is: these are the games that Dany Heatley is King Dung in.

So it's gonna be Luongo getting the start against Norway. Interesting, to say the least.

Shades of 2002 perhaps? Luongo gets the start, then Brodeur comes in and carries us to gold... Sounds good to me.

When the chips are down, I want Marty. No disrespect to MAF or Bobby Lou, but Marty has been there, done that.

I question whether Brodure can still do what he did. It's honestly been 7 years since he has done anything really note worthy. Some of the Vezina's he has won were on merit, not his regular season. Long story short, he's getting old.

He's not playing behind an NJ defense here and he isnt playing The Islanders or Rangers, I agree with starting Luongo here and making him the number 1. Brodure has been less then impressive the last month,.

Bottom line for me, it should be Brodeur's job to lose. This is where I'd prefer to play a tougher team first ala 2002. If he isn't great, go to Luongo.

Not sure how you would determine that. 2002 is such a long time ago it honestly isnt all that important. None of the goalies named are playing all that well right now but Luongo is def the best right now.

Well, if none are playing "all that well" right now, then I think you have to go with the guy who's won everything there is to win. I'm not saying Luongo is the wrong choice, I'm just saying I think Brodeur should get the first shot.

I heard it on the radio. I'll post it as a latest update on the first page if I can find a link.
