Eric staal named new C of Hurricanes

The Hurricanes have removed the C from veteran Rod "The Bod" Brind'amour and awarded it to Eric Staal.

Last time I can remember this happenign was in Dallas with Modano.

Can't imagine Rod being too impressed.

Again, very embarrassing.

Didn't he sign his latest contract while over the age of 35? IF so then they're still stuck with the cap hit. I think at this point they don't want the liability on the ice anymore. He's a minus player and can't win a faceoff with regularity like he used to. That was his reason for being on this team - Win key faceoffs and play a solid two way game. Now he can't do either and is taking up space on the roster that could be better used.

You're right. He's on a 35+ contract, so retirement won't save them anything.

Used by who though? All the star prospects at forward that they have lined up, chomping at the bit to score megapoints in the NHL?

That team is Diddled man. Their top three prospects have combined for like 1 point in 19 games.

Maybe they'll buy out Brind'Amour.

Well, if we're being honest here, I don't think Carolina has the kind of money to bury $3.6 million in the minors and then bring up a player to replace him for $600,000.

That's $4.2 million right there. And for what? Better off continuing to flounder at the bottom of the rankings, hope to move some guys for a couple more picks/possibly get some money off the books and hope to hell that whoever they draft 1/2 overall makes an immediate impact.

Yeah, therein lies the issue, but a kid getting experience is better than Rod right now. I have no idea if they can get a team to take a chance on him? Doubtful with another year left on his contract.
