Should the Sens make a claim and get him for approximately 2.4 for 2 years?

The more recent report from Bob McKenzie is that Nylander has been waived. If he clears Monday, the Capitals have options on him.

The Sportsnet report doesn't make it clear whether that is re-entry, their information dating from November 3.

That is a week old when he was recalled from a conditioning stint. A couple of days later he was waived, as tweeted by McKenzie and confirmed to by a team official. However this is what Caps Insider reported at the time:
The move does not, however, mean that a trade/loan/minor league
assignment is imminent, I'm told. For now, it only means Nylander has
agreed to waive his no movement clause -- which, of course, is the
first step toward moving his $4.875 million cap hit elsewhere.

He needs to be in playing shape if a trade is to be made, but if they send him down to play in the minors then someone could grab him when he is recalled. I also doubt he would have waived his NMC to go to the minors. Most likely he will be loaned to a KHL or SEL club, get in playing shape, then be traded. Or would he have to clear re-entry waivers coming off a "loan" as well?

Just to confirm, if Nylander is claimed on re-entry, Washington eats half his salary next year as well, correct?

If that's the case, I would absolutely claim him. He's a very good player who didn't fit in with Boudreau's system and he's an absolute beast on the PP. Talk about spicing up the second unit.

I think he's done. He should retire.

Why do you say that? His only crap year was last year, even the year before he had 37 points in 40 games and dominates on the PP. He's old for sure, but retire? Is he chronically injured?

He cleared, so no one made a claim.

@ASQ> I tend to agree with you...with that 3MM left on his NHL contract for next year, doubtful anyone will take on his salary.

Am I allowed to bring up that you said it shouldn't be a problem for teams to take him on earlier in the thread? evil

Shouldn't be a 'problem', for the reasons I cited...but it's still doubtful anyone will take on his salary.
