I'm talking about a 1-year deal, though. 60-65 games given his injury status. Then a wink-wink promise to make it up with a signing bonus on his next contract. Boston would not be in a position to match; would Kessel have been in a position to turn it down? Was Tambellini waiting in a dark alley somewhere with a Penner-esque sheet?

Detroit shut out in consecutive games. Why did I pick Leino again? I could have had Afinogenov. My bottom three are killing me -- Leino (5 points), Sykora (3) and Bouchard (hasn't played yet).

Devils forward David Clarkson, who was having his most productive start in his three NHL seasons with 7 goals, 3 power-play goals, 15 points and a plus-1 rating in 22 games, will be sidelined 4-6 weeks with a non-displaced fracture of his lower right leg sustained Friday afternoon in Boston.

Edmonton right wing Ales Hemsky will miss the rest of the season because of a left shoulder injury that will require surgery to repair.

Already fighting shoulder problems, Hemsky was hurt again Wednesday night in a loss to Los Angeles when he was hit from behind by Michal Handzus. "The hit hurt him, but the problem was already there," general manager Steve Tambellini said. "There was already some instability in his shoulder before."

Guys are dropping like flies this year. The list of NHL regulars that are injured is almost about to surpass the list of NHL regulars that are still playing. Nuts.

I gotta wonder if this is the new way to go with Russian prospects. It seems like a real risk to me, to allow a guy to go to the KHL for fear that he may not want to come back to play 3rd line minutes or whatever.

Why is the hockey rumour mill getting *desperate*? ESPN/HNIC commentator Pierre Lebrun offers this view:

No trades!

"It's dead out there," a Western Conference GM told us Saturday.

When you're in my line of work, this is not the response you want from a GM when you ask him via e-mail about possible trade talks.

Once again, there have been very few deals in the NHL in the opening two months thanks to cap-strapped teams.

The Avs' David Jones done for the season with torn ACL...from KuklasKorner:

Winger David Jones, injured when Minnesota’s Chuck Kobasew fell into him near the Colorado blue line with 5:09 remaining in regulation, was diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The initial prognosis was that he would require surgery and be out for four to six months, and anything but the short end of that scale means he is out at least the remainder of the regular season.

7 points by the Penguin blue-liners on the night. The Penguins are at the top of their division.

I wonder if there's some sort of correlation there. General Hockey Talk - Injuries, signings, factoids + other news from around the league - Page 55 159628

In case you weren't watching the Atlanta-Florida game (which you probably weren't), Keith Ballard just samurai sworded his OWN goalie across the head with his stick. Looks like Vokoun is about to be stretchered off.

WHAT THE Diddle?!?!

In a hilarious trend, looks like Ovechkin just tore his MCL and/or ACL or both while he was throwing a dirty kneeing hit.

This is Diddled dude. Vokoun is gone on a stretcher. I couldn't hear the audio so I'm not sure what his status is.

What's the deal there?

After Kovalchuk scored Atlanta's 2-1 goal, Keith Ballard who was to the left of Vokoun in butterfly position literally two hand slashed his OWN goalie across the neck/ear/head area. Vokoun went down in a heap, rolled around considerably grabbing his head and then was carted off on stretcher with a scrum of 10 trainers/doctors around him.
