I'd be happy with Spezza getting 30 goals and 60 assisits year in and out, means 60 other goals are being scored by someone.......

Does Kovalev take some of the need for being 'fancy' out of Spezza's game? You don't find many players as fancy as Kovalev likes to be. Maybe now Spezza can totally focus on the other parts of his game, knowing that Kovalev will be the one dangling.

Plus...Spezza doens't have a choice. Clouston is tough as nails on guys who don't listen to him.

With that kind of attitude we'll never call you MR.

That's alright, I left "MR." behind back in June. I only answer to "DR." now. Smile

Actually, Kovalev might even be able to help out Spezza in the "fancy" regard. Outside of Datsyuk and maybe Semin, no one can dangle like Kovy can. cool)

That said, I think Spezza should look to becoming more (if not completely) like an Alfredsson, Lecavalier-type guy, and using his stickhandling skills to complement that type of game.

That would be great. And don't be afraid to move right into the slot and shoot, don't always stand to the side. Spezza's got a sick little wrister. Very underrated.

Spezza's got everything. Great hands, great size and reach, decent top-speed, great vision, defensive aptitude, ability to score from almost any range (his deflections, hands around the net, mid-range wrister and even his slap-shot are all marvelous) and good face-off ability.

It's just the mental and work-ethic side of his game that he needs to improve. Seriously, if he could put it all together and build up more of a work ethic, I strain to see what distances him from a player like Malkin. There's a reason he was so highly touted.

he has said that he is willing only time will tell if he really is ready to take the next step i think the best think is when heatley is traded and he no longer has him there to lean on (and by lean on i mean heatley has been there as his trigger man for a while )

The guy has changed, even the way he speaks in interviews, it's like ge takes the questions more seriously. I don;t think the work ethic will be a problem anymore. What I'm worried about is he's gonna be afraid of trying the fancy things , those kinds of moves that gave us a lot of goals before.

i dont think that will be a problem he knows thats where his skill lies but hopefully he will just not make as many bad drop passes although if he isnt with heater he may not just assume the player is right there
