I'm assuming some money is heading out the door with Heatley, at the very least Smith and Schubert I'd imagine.

Plus then you move another 1 million in Auld to possibly say San Jose, if they can clear the decks a bit, and you're right back in the black again.

This pretty much rules out guys like Zubov and Regin playing up here next year.

When was the last time Kovalev scored 39 goals? He has averaged about 65 points over the last four years.

A good signing, he is a legitimate top six forward who could wreak havon on our PP.

35 year before last. Close enough.

Penner was a beast on a line with Perry and Getzlaf, and like I said about a month ago, he could find his way into the 50 point club on that top line.

If that Oilers deal goes down, we are in really good shape.

Or Karlsson even at 1.5.

We'll see, but building a solid team in Bingo and bringing them up gradually wont hurt much.

There are ALWAYS injuries as well. They are going to have to earn the spot now, which I prefere anyways.

I'm not as skeptical about Penner as most. I find it a little offensive to see scenarios that have Cogliano, a playmaking center, playing wing on the 3rd line while "Fish" Diddle up our second line as usual at center.

Yep, I pretty much think so too. I wonder now if it could be some kind of San Jose deal. I really can't see any other deal than to Edmonton, but he's gone.

There's a major shift happening in Ottawa. Kovalev is for real, he'll score 30+ goals and he'll ruin teams on the PP (half board king of the NHL). Him and Alfie together would be nice, but they're both RW as far as I know.

Holy cow, nice signing.

Exactly, its still a bad contract but he was not put in a position where he could use his assets. Penner on that top line could be huge.

He had 6 points less than Heatley last year, AND he had 35 goals the year before that playing with nothing even remotely close to any of the big three in Ottawa.

To say that he can't easily hit 35G/70PTS this year might be a stretch.

Heatley had a terrible year last year.

As I stated Kovalev has averaged 65 points over the last four years, the year he scored 35 in Montreal was his highest since the 2000-2001 season.

I owuld not expect him to replace Heater's production, that will need to be done by committee.

I don't mind the sigining but to say he can easily hit 75 points may be setting yourself up for disappointment.

Yeah? I still don't think he's going anywhere right now. I might be wrong, but I just can't see it.

I don't even see how there is a roster spot for Karlsson next year unless the Sens can unload 2-3 defencemen and he outplays Campoli and possibly Kuba. I have no problem seeing him work in the AHL for a year.

I think he's a lock for 30+ goals and 65+ points. And right there is a replica of Heatley, who we were paying 7.5.

Now, if we can flip Heatley for something cool, look the Diddle out.

You could be right, but I get the feeling that it will happen fast. Now that things have quieted down on that front, they can work on it without it being top news.

I'm telling you, Murray just might have made the best FA signing of the season. I think $5 million is a complete bargain.

I think you're right, plus it lets us spread out the offence.

Seriously, we just added Kovy for nothing! Add what we get back in the Heatley deal, this team could be very, very scary. Tough to knock Boston off though.

NOW, with a guy who can control the play in the offensive zone, our PMD look to be extremely valuable.
