IF good Alexei shows up, then this is good news. But when you spend ten million dollars on a player, the word IF should be nowhere to be found.
I'll hold off on my judgment until the end of next season, but I'm not so confident.
There are many that don't like this move, but none to be found here.
My immediate reaction when I heard Kovalev 'could' be a Sen earlier this morning, I'll be honest, I almost puked in my mouth. But, the more I thought about it, like all hockey signings, there is a LOT of risk involved. As Wrager so aptly put it, and I completely agree, I'm elated so long as hard-working, sniper Kovalev hits the ice every night he dons a sens jersey; however if it's the drama queen, no-show underachiever, then I want NO part of him.
One thing that cannot be argued is two fold: he's a great replacement (albeit short term, perhaps long term as well) to Heater; and he makes the Sens PP ALL the more dangerous. THAT part I'm REALLY looking forward to.

Heatley-Smith for
Penner, Smid, Eberle, 2010 1st. I think thats what should be done now.
Yeah, I could live with that. I like Cogliano, but Eberle I like even more.
From EDM's perspective, tho', it might be hard to start changing the players involved in the deal. Now that Cogliano knows he was to be traded, the organization has sent the message that he is 'expendable.' Might make things in EDM a little... uncomfortable.

He's a question-mark in that regard.
Eberle, on the other hand, does not really have that problem. I like him, if only because we're losing Heatley and Eberle's a pretty clutch scorer.

That would have been dennycrane. After the 2-years are done he will be 38, so I don't think he's a long-term replacement. Our powerplay should be much, much improved. That might be the best way to counter Burke's team of truculent tough guys.

The big difference between Heatley and Kovie is that when motivated Kovie will play physical, will score and set up his team mates, and will play defensively.
On the PP Kovie can sit on the 1/2 boards and destroy you with a wrist shot (much better than a slap shop in my opinion) or should the goalie take the top corner away from him he can pass it across or to the point.
If Karlsson is playing here this year imagine the problems teams could have with the PP. Karlsson on the point, if you take away the passing lanes his shot can kill you, if you take his shot, he could dish to Kovie or Spezza.
I just wonder if being treated the way he and some others were in Montreal this year, if he doesn't get that little bit of motivation to stick it to them all year long. He could end up with 80 points.

Very well put, couldnt agree more.
