If Heatley actually stayed in Ottawa, The Sens would have be close to unstoppable.

Holy christ, is anyone else drooling??

I mean, assuming for an instant that Heatley's recent antics may have been more a case of bad advice from his agents, then suppose the Sens do in fact keep heatley at least up until Deadline day... AND, he performs up to par, or better...

whoa....

Well, it's not gonna happen, but it's a pretty sweet thought.

This puts the pressure back on Heatley now because The Sens really dont need him and they really dont need to return for him at this point. Good luck Dany, fuc king moron.

Eklund is saying that Heatley to Columbus is an "E4", as in I made up another rumour. Possible names are Filitov (never gonna happen), Brassard, and Husselius.

Would Heatley go play with Nash ?

I missed your eloquence dude... It's been TOO long.

Seriously though, this signing removes ANY bargaining power Heatley THOUGHT he had.
Trust me, his tail is firmly planted between his legs and I think deep-down, he's saying to himself: "F****K!!!!!"

LMAO!!

And how much is Fraudlund charging his membership for that fictitious info?

While a duo of Heatley and Nash could be lethal, until I hear it from an actual source, I wouldn't give it another moments thought.

I've been wondering about Kovalev. Specifically about his so-called antics. There was that time with the Rangers (tap of the stick to the back) and the "slash" to the wrist when with the Habs. In both cases, I believe, the opposing team scored. But this guy has been in the league 16 years, surely there are other examples of this behaviour?

I can't say much about what he was like with the Pens, but if he had any issues then you could surely attribute at least some of it to age. Then he went to the Rangers. That organization was incredible. Team payroll of something like $80-90M and they kept missing the playoffs. It was a horrible team. There must have been quite a few issues there, probably mainly off the ice. (If I'm confusing timelines, then please excuse me and correct as required.) Then he comes to Montreal and, guess what? Everyone expects this to be yet another problem -- same guy, different jersey. But he actually had some pretty good years there. At first. Last year was not so good, but look at what was going on with the team! I mean, Alfie's production dropped dramatically last year, but we are all attributing it to the team.

So, all that to say, perhaps Kovalev isn't really as enigmatic as we all think.

:drooling: Please. And he'd be mentored by Kovalev.

^ Good point wprager, things tend to get blown out of proportion in a big way in order to make headlines. He's still somewhat of an enigma, but not to the degree people will make it out to be.

For what it's worth (not much?) Kovalev and the Habs ended up winning 3 straight to come back from a 3-1 defecit and take that series vs Boston. And from what I recall from that series, he wasn't whining any more after that "slash". It looks like we'll find out if he really learns from his mistakes.

The one thing that should be noted about Kovalev is his foundation work for the kids. This guy is all about the kids and raised more money than any other player in Montreal for the kids. That alone is a plus in my books, then couple that with an elite talent. The Senators rose to the crop today fans! We should be happy about this one.

Yep and I wouldn't rule it out just yet. Lee will start the year in Bingo and Smith on the IR, making plenty of room under the cap.

Either way how it plays out, Heatley has to come out and speak to say what his intentions are today. If they remain the same, good bye! If they have changed, then explain. It wouldn't be the first mistake someone made.

Meh, w/e, the season is looking up compared to last week. Hopefully we can get a solid forward prospect in a Heatley deal.

Not that I want to get into the habit of defending Leaf fans but...

You have to understand that Sportsnet often changes the story thread be keeps the comments. My guess is these comments carried over from an earlier story in the day ('Montreal not re-signing Kovalev'). I see it happen all the time.

EDIT: look at the time-stamps on those comments. Both are about 3 hours before the Kovalev news broke.

I see what you are saying. There is potential that this is not direct evidence that they are morons but I am comfortable that their body of work speaks for itself in this regard...
