Heatley for Phaneuf: per Sportsnet's Mark Spector

To be fair it was more of a musing than him reporting a legitimate rumour. If you read the whole article you'll see that he says it's hard to get info from a Sutter run team. He also shoots holes in the idea as well.

I automatically knew it wasn't Richardson because all he does is pour water over ANY deal discussions.

Mark Spector is now reporting that the Oilers may be the front runner for Heatley with a package that includes Dustin Penner and Tom Gilbert.

Surprise, surprise.

Ugh I've been dying here with limited access (ok so lounging on the Italian coast isn't exactly dying), and I finally login to see that Heatley hasn't been traded yet?

I want no part of Phaneuf. Our blueline is set quite nicely with youth, now and in the future. Phaneuf is BAD defensively. For that kind of money I'd prefer someone who can get it done at both ends of the ice.

Penner and Gilbert? That's insulting that we'd take Gilbert and a fat unmotivated Penner for no cap relief? Seriously, this is vomit inducing. Diddle that, I would rather play an uninterested Heatley.

Wait for the deadline Murray, the best window you had is now passed. Heatley's value will be even higher at the deadline than it was a few days ago. We aren't luring any top end talent to Ottawa anyway.

Finally, someone else who doesn't want Phaneuf ... unless he's still seeing Cuthbert.

I wouldn't mind Regehr in a trade package for Sh1t-head.

I am okay with Phaneuf if the other options are those two stiffs from New York or those other two stiffs from Edmonton.

I would lean towards keeping him if these are the stupid kind of offers we are getting. Similar to the Neil response... hey Dany, nobody wants you bad enough to trade for you so... um... perhaps you should rethink your stance. Maybe putting in 100% effort when asked wouldn't be a bad thing.. jack a$$... f()ckface!

Gilbert I am OK with, Penner not so much. My preference would be Souray but he wants to stay close to his kids.

God, that would be great. I keep thinking about Phaneuf - and for one reason or another he had an off year last year. His defence was weak, but he's not at all declining. He's a stud. An elite, stud D-man, who will wreck opponents.

I'm all for it personally.

It's such a logical move too. The Flames are boring as Dung, it's time they upped the tempo - a lot.

You are not going to get that type of return for Heatley. Look, the Rangers basically got Higgins for Gomez, we'll be luck y to get Dubinsky and a 3rd line winger back. I think this deal shows what a team will give back for a high priced super star.
