I am not sure we have to add Lee and the 2nd rounder myself...

I am not ready to give up on Lee myself... and a second. I thought we were looking for a top 6, a d-man and a first for Heater. Not package for package...

I am a big Burns guy, PMB.. not so much. But that is just personal I guess... I realize he is a talent.

You know I just looked at the options on the poll and was mildly surprised not to see '...to hell' as one of the options. Just thought I'd point that out.

I forgot how much (physical) baggage Burns has. That article was enough to make me wary of making a deal for him.

As for the topic at hand, I still feel Edmonton is the one. They have a relatively new owner who wants to show his fans just what he will do to ice a competitive team, they have so many assets, and have been looking for a player of his calibre since Pronger left. It would make a nice story for them that they be on the receiving end of some douchebag wanting out of a city. But hey, if he goes to LA, I will be just as happy, maybe more so.

As for when Murray will get this deal done, I can only imagine he wants to take care of this ASAP. I know he's talking tough and will play tough if he needs to, but the reality is he won't be able to properly assess the team heading and his needs on July 1st if this trade hasn't happened. Likewise, the teams that are interested in Heatley need to know if they have him or not before free agency begins. I expect the trade to be done within the week.

I don't care where, as long as we get our pacakage.

Don't take it personally kid, Dany isn't dumping you..

I hope Dany gets shipped to LA for the package that everyone wants but something is telling me we will still be talking about this in late Aug.

Smile I swear, it's not you, it's me.

What Murray says is rarely what he thinks, unless he wants you to think what he thinks. What Murray usually says is whatever he thinks he needs you to think to ensure the best deal possible.

Saying that he'll wait for the best deal, even if it takes him past Draft Day, he's basically telling the Heatley camp to forget about their list and be prepared to play or sit out. If he doesn't trade him, he'll either not pay him (if he sits out) or he'll get his pound of flesh. Bottom line, he's telling Heatley that he just might have to bend over and take it.

On the other side of the ledger, he's telling the GMs who are interested that he's not going to be over a barrell trying to move this guy. He'd prefer to get this deal done quickly, of course, but not at the expense of sacrificing the return value. The $4M is a big ouch, but Melnyk is willing to spend it if it's best for the team's future (besides, I don't think Heatley will suit up, so they are not likely to be paying it).

My gut says the deal gets done before the draft.

I think you're right. It only makes sense for everyone involved (Murray, the GM that gets Heatley, and the ones that want him but don't get him) to have this deal done before July 1st so they know what their needs are for UFAs.

One week to go...

Watch it come right down to the wire... at the draft...

Bettman: "LA has traded the 5th pick to the Ottawa Senators..."

I voted with the majority and LA, just a gut feeling really, but I feel LA would put together the best package for Heatley, possibly centering around Frolov and definitely involving that # 5 pick.

Although I like what LA could possibly offer, I chose Colorado because I believe they would be more inclined to deal that 3rd pick for an immediate payoff.

Well, we did see those rumours/proposals based around Corey Perry.

I'm quite confident you won't see him in Buffalo, Boston, Montreal, Detroit, Carolina or Florida.

A lot of Western teams seem fair game though. I could see Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Minny (please), St. Louis, San Jose, even Dallas.

If Columbus wasn't so strapped for cash, maybe them too.

I can't see Edmonton at all; same with St Louis and Columbus (mainly because of Howson's explicitly stating that the quality young core are staying with the organization).

I don't want anything Calgary or San Jose has to offer, so I'm hoping they don't win.

I think LA and Vancouver are solid front runners with enough quality to make an enticing package, if they wanted to.

and I think Minny and Dallas are legitimate dark horses. If I had to put money on a particular team, I would think long and hard about those two coming out on top.

As for the idea that this doesn't get done by next week: Just drop it, please. It's not going to linger and the idea that the 3rd most dangerous sniper in the last 4 years is somehow untradeable - based on any of the reasoning I've heard - is just nonsense. Bryan Murray knows what he's doing and has proven time and again to be able to complete a trade and get fair value (or at least something resembling fair value) regardless of the constraints.

Heatley is one of the most marketable assets to hit the market this off-season and there will be a team willing and able to take on his salary.

It's honestly just getting annoying now, Dave, and it comes off antagonistic. Whether thats intentional, like some of your other comments, or just accidental, it would be nice if you could stop it.

then that should be followed by Bryan Murray quickly hanging up the phone and waiting for it to ring again.

Well, I'm not of the "draft picks are best" crowd and I think legitimate NHLers are more valuable (generally) but that number 3 pick is pretty enticing.

Wolski is a worth a look.
Liles is borderline, but not what I'm looking for in this deal.
Shattenkirk = meh.
5th = LA's...
