Franchise Player
Franchise Player

PKC wrote:People are ridiculous to be honest. In a league with only 7 different 50 goal scorers in the last 6 years, it'd kind of hard to believe that when one of them comes onto the market, that there would be no interest for him.

This is a case where a GM isn't going to make a trade for the sake of making a trade and lose out on the value of something as rare as a franchise defenseman, number 1 center or franchise goaltender.

We are trading away a franchise player, regardless of his personal and public issues right now. And, we have a GM trying to get a franchise return for him, but might have to compromise just a bit because of the mess this has become.

I'm sure if he was willing to give him away for spare parts, we might have had a trade done the day after it was leaked he wanted one.

I think some of these idiot GMs out there think they're going to nickle and dime a sly old fox like Murray into a desperation deal. What a bunch of turkeys!

Those same schmucks will realize, all at the same time, that it won't go down that way and end up bidding more than they would have had to at the draft.

we can definitely hope it turns out that way, I know his attitude has a lot to do with this, Hextall said it all, 4 coaches, 3 teams, had problems with them all, but it doesn't seem to bother Edmonton, if a team is desperate enough for a goal scorer, you make the necessary move, Quinn would be keeping Heatley on a short leash when it comes to being a prima donna.

Is the city of Edmonton that different from the city of Calgary (where Heatley grew up, I believe)?

Or is Heatley afraid of having another coach that will put his feet to the fire?

he might as well give up playing if its the latter, I don't see very many soft coaches out there that will put up with this bull, if it was the Rangers which he loved so much it seems to go to, Tortorella would have hung him out to dry by his nuts if he pulled that BS. In Edmonton, it's Quinn. Calgary if he ended up there may not be too bad, he avoided Iron Mike and Sutter seems to be a bit more balanced.

Big difference. Climate and size of city are two things for sure that stick out. From a team prespective I personally think they are very similar. Edmonton has better depth and is younger.

Interesting read. Not sure if this is just random observations, or if this is the start of a PR compaign to actually rehabilitate Heatley's character, or just buryhim further.

By Eric Francis, Sun Media:

Not many are lining up to defend Dany Heatley these days. Not even Heatley himself, as the embattled Calgarian refuses to try rationalizing his decisions.
However, while team officials around the league question his character and criticize his inability to coexist with coaches, at least one of his former coaches says that's not the Heatley he knew.

"This is all so hard to understand -- I'm as disappointed as hell," said Calgary Canucks coach Don Phelps, Heatley's coach at age 17. "When I had him, he was fun to have around and totally committed. He never complained. I was so impressed with his willingness to buy in. He played the role he was asked to play. My relationship with him couldn't have been better. He was all about, 'I'll do whatever you want me to, coach, to be a better player.' "

Granted, it's been a decade since the two worked so closely together. And now, Phelps is put off like the rest of the hockey world by Heatley's trade demand and subsequent refusal to accept a trade to Edmonton.

"Something has changed between then and now, because if what's suggested is true, this is a complete reversal of the kid I knew," said Phelps, who blames the attitude change on money. "Everybody reacts differently as a person when people throw millions your way, and if it isn't money that's changed him, what is it?"

Phelps adds the people surrounding him aren't helping. "No question he's getting bad advice," said Phelps, who figures no NHL team will want the former 50-goal scorer and he'll end up playing in Europe.

"I'm almost shocked at the position he's put himself in with the general public. If I'm a guy on the outside now, and I see all this, I'm disgusted."

Bill Daly:
Sens have ground for grievance

Last week, Chris Neil signed a new four-year contract to stay with the Senators. On Monday morning, the gritty winger said that if Dany Heatley doesn't have the same commitment to Ottawa as he does, then it would be best for the sniper to find a new home.

"I've said this from day one: I'm a guy who wants to be here. He doesn't want to be here, so if he doesn't want to be here, let him go somewhere else," said Neil, speaking at Jason Spezza's annual golf tournament.

Neil said he was surprised to learn of Heatley's request for a trade because of tension with head coach Cory Clouston. Neil said it was his belief that Heatley adapted to the new coaching system well -- and even scored more goals under Clouston than he did under previous head coach Craig Hartsburg. The rest of the players who spoke on Monday, also expressed surprise when they found out about Heatley's trade request one month ago.

"It surprised everyone," said center Mike Fisher. "Nobody saw this coming. It's too bad -- it's disappointing. But definitely, it surprised us all."

However, Heatley may not find a change of address after all. Bryan Murray has failed to find a suitable trading partner for Heatley and last week, the Ottawa general manager said that returning to the Senators might be Heatley's only legitimate option right now. The club recently paid a $4 million advance on his salary for next season, after Heatley turned down a potential trade to Edmonton.

His Senators teammates say they would welcome Heatley back into the fold -- after he addressed the team and showed that he was committed to being part of the group again.

"Obviously if he came back, something would be said in the room and it would be addressed with and over. We're men and we can deal with that," said veteran winger Shean Donovan.

"The hockey world is pretty understanding and forgiving. When you have a guy that can score 50 goals, you welcome him back," added center Chris Kelly. "He's been a great teammate in the past and I don't think things would change moving forward."

Jason Spezza -- Heatley's linemate and good friend -- spoke about the situation last Thursday for the first time. At his golf tournament on Monday, the star center echoed his sentiments from last week.

"If Dany comes back, it would be great for him to have him back. But if he doesn't, we have to move on as a team. He's just one piece of the puzzle," said Spezza.

using Rooney's favourite website capgeek.com, which I found has a trade machine application per se, used it to work out a deal between SJ and Ottawa involving Marleau and Cheechoo coming the Sens way with Heatley and Auld going the other way, didn't see a way to include prospects, so this will have to do. By the math, it is doable, but we would be tighter against the cap depending on what elliott has been signed at, which is why it only shows one goalie after completing the trade.

I did the same scenario with the Avs, including Hejduk and Wolski in exchange for Heatley

Edit:removed the pasted data, was too big and too messed up to post here, but I recommend you try it for yourself.

Isn't it a wonderful toy? Smile

However, I suggest playing with the cut-and-pasted text before submitting your post. Saves a lot of page-space.

I tried that through Microsoft Word, wouldn't let me format it, any suggestions?

Sharks only have 17 on the roster. The remaining cap-per-open-spot is less than $200K, which is less than half the league minimum. San Jose would have to move more salary, and that would be horrible for us.

It would *have to be* a three-way trade. Does the site offer that feature?

Use the Preview feature. You can get rid of stuff like large fonts and other character styles by using the "Remove Text Formatting" icon (Letter 'A' with what looks like a dead-end road sign in front of it). Formatting table data, that's just hit and miss.

I just do it in the post-box thingie. Nothing special. Cut in smaller segments, making sure to avoid in particular any graphics that separate the text -- i.e., on the "Trade Machine" page, start your cut at the team names, not at "Trade Machine."

it's definitely wonderful, just damn that table feature they use on the trade machine, I can't disable it through Microsoft word, but damn, it is fun to play with lol.
